Callum: Hey guys, what did you do today?
Rayla: Ezran fit 15 oreos in his mouth.
Callum: 15??
Ezran, mouth full of oreos: *nods proudly*
Callum: Your personal best!
Rayla: I can’t believe we’re stuck in this room together
Callum, swallowing the key: Truly unfortunate.
Callum: Oh my god, do you know what this is?
Rayla: It’s a book. There’s a lot of them here, it’s a library.
Callum: ...Did I do something wrong?
Rayla: No. Why do you ask?
Callum: So sharpening knives at 3:00 am is just a hobby then?
But suriously how old are these kids? If Sarai is pregnant then Callum should be 4 yo, Claudia should be 6 and Soren should be 8. Make it make sense.
BABY CALLUM APPRECIATION POST
(From TDP graphic novel #3, "Puzzle House")
Carry the One: 2nd stand-alone drabble
Her ankle was throbbing, the side of her face stinging, her insides clenching with the memory of the laughter.
They’d all been… happy to see her lose, see her hurt.
They’d be happy to see her gone.
She’d made their crown prince miserable for two years, what else should she have expected?
The… against all reason… loving arms of the crown prince in question, tightened around her as he stomped quickly and angrily away from the sparring grounds.
“I’ll see to it that-“ he started.
“No. You won’t.”
“Rayla, they were cruel to you! You lost on a damn technicality and they know it! That rotten plank of wood you stepped on won that match, and they were acting like-“
“They were acting like I’d won five matches straight and then taken down a peg.”
“That’s shit! You were hurt!”
“Barely. And I’m sure someone flipping arse over tit looks hilarious from the outside.”
“It did not.”
“Well, you’re biased, as in, you don’t hate me.”
“They don’t-“ He pulled her closer, cradling her to his chest, as he kept moving. “I’m sorry, I… you’re amazing. I don’t get why-“
“You… you really don’t get why they hate me?”
“If it’s because you’re an elf, all the more reason to-“
“Callum, they don’t think I deserve what I have, what you give me. They don’t think I should be carried to a comfortable royal bedroom where the finest doctor in the kingdom will see to my measly sprained ankle, a handsome prince will make me magic ice packs and kiss my booboos and a servant will prepare me finger foods I can eat in bed. They don’t think I should be here… at all.” Her throat was tight around her words now. “You k-know… Opeli-“
“I know ‘they’ don’t get a say!”
“They do though,” she sniffed. “They get a say, they get to not want me here, they get to think what they think and you can’t protect me from it. People love you. I’d be mad at the girl who lied to you and left you on your birthday, too. I… I am mad at that girl-”
“I’m not. I love that girl. And you better not badmouth her in front of me.”
You can see all the variants of this drawing here and the Rayla carrying Callum versions here find other drabbles in this series in the [#drabble series: carry the one] tag. These don’t need to be read in order, they’re unrelated drabbles, just based on the same ‘carrying’ concept
book 5: ocean + callum being a total badass
Best caption ever.
still need two blankets? LIARS. they can't even ride different steeds, they need to cuddle.
Yes this! Parent-child relationships are relationships. They depend on two people. And while it is absolutely one hundred percent the adult's responsibility to shape that relationship into a healthy one, it is inevitable that it will be different with each child. And relationships are always fucked up, but each one should be uniquely fucked up!
Im sure its been said before but I absolutely love love love how well The Dragon Prince did depicting how siblings can have the same parents but still grow up with very different versions of them.
To Claudia her dad was gentle, loving, and devoted. He taught her everything he knew, guiding his daughter lovingly through the lessons he had learned through life.
To Soren his dad was cold, angry, and dismissive. He ignored him every chance he got, making it known he was disappointed in his son for ‘failing’ to take after him.
To Claudia her mom is someone she doesn’t ever want to see again, someone who abandoned her.
To Soren his mom is someone he misses dearly, someone he wants to reconnect with after everything.
Then stepping away from their family
To Ezran his dad was affectionate, funny, and playful. Everyday he knew his dad loved him unconditionally, cause he tossed aside court manners to play with him.
To Callum his dad was a little awkward, stiff, but kind. He was never really sure how much of family he actually was, or if he could call Harrow his father at all.
callum reading the letter king harrow left him
We need more callum centered angst fics I’m starving out here
If someone doesn’t start making the criminal star elf a fucked up father figure to Callum I’m gonna riot
Hot take but I do not enjoy Rayllum. I still think it’s relatively important story wise and I don’t at all mind it being a canonical relationship, but I dislike how they frequently forego personal character development or depth, specifically for Callum, to hammer in details of a relationship we already knew was inevitably going to be canon.
(SPOILERS FOR SEASON 6)
Like that moment when Callum had to find “his one truth” or whatever. I thought it was going to be Sarai but when it turned out to be Rayla I was kinda disappointed. I feel like there’s so many other avenues that could be explored with Callum’s character that never really get utilized which is ultimately a huge let down.
I want to explore Callum’s grief with being an orphan. The potential jealousy of seeing his partner be reunited with her father, but also the man that made him an orphan. The dilemma he could feel between sympathizing with Aaravos’ story or facing the fact that he is a bad person.
We’re on the second to last season and I’m pretty sure my guy has only mastered two arcanums which is still a feat but also so much less than what I expected. In Avatar: The Last Airbender they did a very good job with balancing the development of everyone’s character, the storyline of Aang mastering the elements, AND showing us the relationship between Aang and Katara to a point that it was solidified it would become canon without it getting in the way of the story.
By the time Dragon Prince is done they would have more episodes than Avatar, but the reason why they could not balance these 3 components despite a writer for Avatar being a writer for tdp is because they paid way too much attention on unnecessary fan service for a ship that, again, we all know will be canon, instead of putting any serious focus on literally anything else of significance.
I love Rayla and Callum individually, I hate the shallowness of their characters as a result of showing a relationship that ultimately is also kind of shallow.
hedging a major bet for tdp's future seasons:
callum will use dark magic again.
now, there's some part of me that's only saying this because i want it to happen. i'm a major callum person, but me being a fan of a character means i want said character to suffer as much as possible before their happy ending. however, i do think that not only would such an event be interesting, it also would explain some stuff we've been getting as of s5 and s6.
though there's some things in s4 that contribute to this theory, s5's final episodes specifically take us back to dark magic as it relates to callum. he's assumed to be a dark mage, admits to thinking about and studying it (which, though that doesn't really mean much as studying is really just studying, is still something to point out), is pressured into doing a dark magic spell, actually DOES a dark magic spell.. there's a lot. i'd say that final point points out callum's fatal flaw fantastically: excessive personal loyalty. (do you hear that? all pjo fans collectively screamed.) to save a friend, callum would sacrifice himself, or a greater cause.
this ties well into the next season. in s6, in return for callum promising to choose the greater good's safety over rayla's (there's that theme of personal loyalty again), rayla finally promises that if callum is possessed by aaravos again, she'll kill him. this is immediately followed by the audience being informed that using dark magic gives aaravos a way to posses you, which is THEN followed up by callum being warned that if he uses it again after the cleansing thing, "the darkness and corruption will overwhelm you." idk, but the whole thing to me seems like it's setting up a lot of potential for callum to use dark magic in the future, only to fall victim to both this aforementioned corruption and aaravos.
in summary, i think it's quite likely callum will use dark magic again to save someone he loves, losing himself in the process. i do personally hope for ezran, solely because i like testing the limits of brotherly love and consider their dynamic to have been somewhat neglected as of late, but rayla would make the most sense given what's been shown so far. "oh no!" you cry out at this theory. or maybe you hate him and you cheer, idk. but do not fret (or do not celebrate for you haters /lh). if this route is taken, there's three things i can see happening:
"you broke your promise, i'll break mine." rayla ignores what she said, saving callum over killing him. would probably be yet another l/i reaches out to m/c whilst they're being possessed "yada yada yada i love you this isn't you blah blah blah." though it is something of a tired concept at this point, it would still be fun to see.
the extra quasar diamond. c'mon, they wouldn't leave one free one out there for no reason, we know this. rayla keeps her promise and kills him, but callum is revived.
some combination of both.
i also have related hopes for claudia, but i think i've said what i need to. anyone agree with me?
