You feel the blood rush to your head, see the thick red liquid trickling down your arm, taste the salty tears on your cheeks. Your back aches from pressing against the wall, slumped down on the floor of the bathroom.
You choke back a sob as you press the blade to your wrist, wincing as the bright red droplets pool within the white line. Just one more. Your brain screams at you to hurt yourself again. One last one. The voices in your head intensify as you slice your skin, again and again.
This was your fault. You deserved this. Failing on a charms test - how could you be so stupid? You had studied for hours in a row, and still managed to fail. You stupid girl. You internally curse yourself, pressing a hand to your mouth to muffle your sobs.
Your head starts to feel fuzzy from the blood loss, the red liquid dripping from your hand like water from a faucet. Black spots cloud your vision as your eyelids droop, head lolling onto your shoulder. Suddenly, you hear a knock on the door and your eyes snap open in panic. "Y/n, love, are you in there?" Sirius' voice blares through the haze in your head like starlight.
"Uh-" you scramble to stuff the blade into your pocket, grabbing the toilet roll from the sink. "Yeah, I'm in here. I'm okay!" your voice turns unnaturally high-pitched. You start to wrap the toilet paper around your arm, wiping your face on your sleeve. "Are you sure you're alright?" he probes. "I-uh-" a sob escapes you as your nails graze a scar, and you hear the sucking in of a breath on the other side of the door.
"Y/n, I'm coming in." Sirius says firmly as the knob turns. The door creaks as he steps in, and you choke out a sob and hurriedly pull your sleeves down in an attempt to shield him from your mess. It didn't work. You see the panic flashing in his eyes as they widen, and he rushes towards you, grabbing your bloodied wrists.
You wince and he loosens his grip. "Sorry." he says quietly. "Can I - can I see?" you gulp down the lump in your throat and nod, glancing away with tears rolling down your cheeks. Sirius carefully rolls back your sleeves, his breath hitching as his eyes land on the white scars lining your arms. The blood continues to cruelly drip down your wrist, mocking you. You brace yourself for the screams and taunts that will spurt from his mouth. But they never come.
"Y/n. Look at me." he says, his voice cracking. You suck in a deep breath as you feel his fingers on your chin, lifting your head till your eyes meet. His eyes are round and glassy, tears threatening to spill. The look on his face breaks your heart in two, and you let out a wrangled cry of defeat. A tear slips down his face as he immediately pulls you into his embrace. "You're okay. You're okay." he croaks out as you melt into the hug, crying into his sweater.
The both of you stay there for what feels like forever, Sirius' hands rubbing circles on your back while you grip him so tightly as though he would be taken from you if you didn't. He presses gentle kisses to the crown of your head while whispering sweet nothings into your ear. You feel his own tears on your hair, his heartache seeping through your skin.
Your sobs finally quieten and Sirius pulls back slowly, holding you at arm's length. He cups your face, wiping away the tears. "My lovely girl. Why didn't you say anything before?" he whispers. You sniffle. "I'm sorry. It was- it was hard," you mumble, glancing away. He shakes his head and smiles gently. "Nothing to apologise for, love. I just wish you had told me, so I could carry some of your pain for you.”
"But they're my problems. Not yours. You shouldn't have to burden yourself for me," you murmur, looking at him guiltily. He gently presses a finger to your mouth. "None of that. If my girl is hurting, it's my job to shelter you from that pain, okay? Please just... just tell me what's wrong, and I swear I'll try to make it better. I'll do anything it it meant you didn't harm yourself," he says firmly, his eyes swirling with so much guilt, hurt and love.
You nod slowly. "Okay, my sweet girl?" he asks softly, thumb grazing over your cheek. "Okay,” you reply quietly, mustering a weak smile. He smiles softly in response and presses a kiss to your forehead. "Good girl. Now let's get you cleaned up while you tell me what's been going on in that pretty little head of yours, huh?" he asks softly, lacing your fingers together. You nod meekly as he pulls you into another bone-crushing hug, so full of affection that you feel your pain start to dwindle.
"I hope you know I love you. And I'm sorry that things have been hard, but I'm here now. You're safe with me." he whispers, raking his fingers through your hair. You smile weakly, squeezing him tighter. "I know,” you mumble fondly, your voice overflowing with gratitude. He starts to grin, his usual flirtatious nature coming back to him. "And I also hope you know that once I'm done cleaning you up, I'm gonna cuddle you and kiss you stupid." A giggle slips out of you. “I'd like that very much."
"Cuddles fix everything, just trust me," Sirius grins, pecking your cheek. You smile fondly, knowing full well that you could trust his starlight to shield you from the storm in your head.

You lie on your boyfriend's bed in the Gryffindor boys dorm, watching Sirius paint his nails. His long, slender fingers toying around with the nail polish bottle does awful things to you. His long, black hair is tied up in a bun, exposing the tattoos trailing down his neck and below his shirt. Soon enough, you feel your cheeks start to warm and the wetness between your legs.
"Siri?" you squeak, now starting to rub your thighs together. "Yes, love?" he perks up, looking over at you. He smirks when he realises what's going on. "What do you need?" he grins, feigning innocence. "Need you," you whine, your hand slipping in between your thighs. "Take care of me."
He stands up and makes his way over to you, smirking. "Anything for my girl," he whispers, sitting down next to you and cupping your cheeks, pulling you into a fierce kiss. You kiss him back hungrily, tongue slipping into his mouth. He nibbles at your lip, eliciting a moan as you run your hands through his hair.
After what seems like an eternity, you pull back, trembling and breathless. He grins at how flustered you look, and moves to take off your shirt. You quickly grab his wrist, shaking your head. "No - can't wait any longer..." you mumble bashfully, guiding his hand towards your sensitive spot, the bedsheet below you moist with your fluids.
Sirius chuckles. "If that's what you want, love," he whispers, grazing a finger over the thin layer of cloth. You whimper, instinctively clenching your thighs together. He pulls your legs apart and pushes your chest till you're laying down, before peeling off your panties.
"God, you're wet." he murmurs, taking in the view before him. Your legs are shaking with anticipation and you moan as the white wetness drips out of you. "Please... need you..." you mumble as he smiles and starts to brush his fingers over your folds. You groan in pleasure as he presses his finger into your entrance, slowly working up the momentum. Your sounds of pleasure get louder and louder as he presses another finger into you, simultaneously sucking on your clit. "Such a good girl, aren't you?" he smirks.
Your back arches as he pumps his fingers faster, moaning loudly. He drops to his knees, and presses a quick kiss to your inner thigh before beginning to lap at your cunt. You whimper, gripping his head and fighting to keep your eyes open as his nose nudges your sensitive clit. "Tastes so good." he murmured, his face covered with your arousal. Your thighs clench around his head as you make loud noises of pleasure.
"Sirius... I- I'm gonna come..." you breathe out, gasping as the sound of him slurping against you made the coil in your stomach tighten. "Come for me then, my lovely girl." he whispered as he sucked, and that was enough to send you over the edge, the coil in your stomach unravelling as the white hot liquid spurts out of you. He holds your thighs firmly in place as you ride out your high, sighing in content.
You flop down and lay there tiredly, a small smile tugging at the corner of your lips as Sirius moves up to lay with you. His face is coated with your liquid and he licks it off contentedly. "That was good, huh?" you giggle, leaning in to kiss him gently as he wraps his arms around your waist, pulling you into his warm embrace.
"So good." he murmurs as he rubs your back. "I love you, pretty girl." You smile, nuzzling into his chest. "Thanks for taking care of me."
He presses a kiss to the crown of your head. "Anytime, love.”

You stand in the Gryffindor dorm, staring at your reflection in the mirror with a defeated look on your face. You're stripped down to your bra and panties, so you can see your body for itself. Your fat, ugly, body. You turn this way and that, inhaling deeply and standing straighter to try and make your stomach look smaller. Your mind starts to race with curses and cruel words about how disgusting you looked.
A tear snakes down your cheek as you wrap your arms tightly around your stomach, as though you could physically squeeze the fat away. Your gaze is hopelessly transfixed on your reflection in the mirror, not even realising when your boyfriend peeks his head in through the door.
Sirius sees the tears on your face and feels his heart drop to his stomach, silently padding across the floor towards you. He wraps his arms around your waist and you flinch, snapping back to reality as he rests his head on your shoulder.
"What's wrong, pretty girl?" he whispers, kissing the tears on your cheek. "Nothing." you sigh, willing more tears not to fall but they do anyway, seeing your boyfriend's reflection in the mirror. Seeing how perfect he was, with his silky black locks and stormy grey eyes and body of a greek god. He could easily have any girl he wanted. Why did he ever choose you?
"Baby," Sirius murmurs sadly but bemusedly. "I can see the cogs turning in your head and the tears in your eyes. What's got my girl so upset?" he nudges at your cheek gently. You turn your face away, not missing the look of heartbreak on his face. "I just... I was thinking... I think I'm too fat." you mumble quickly, wanting to get it over with, wanting to hear the truth spill from his lips.
There's dead silence for a moment, as Sirius tries to take in what you said. His mouth opens and closes a few times as he stares at you in the mirror. Your breath hitches, feeling the dread settling in your stomach. "What?" he finally blurts out, seemingly at a loss for words. He grabs your hips tightly and spins you around to face him. "You're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen, love. Why - why would you even think you're too fat? Who told you that?" he says, his words filled with so much sincerity and worry you feel like you could cry.
"No one told me that... I just felt that way," you mutter, glancing away as an embarassed blush coats your cheeks. Sirius sighs. "Baby. Look at me," he says firmly, tilting your chin up until you finally meet his eyes. The love in his eyes makes you slightly giddy. "You're drop dead gorgeous. And I'm not just saying this, I mean it. You're not fat, you're perfect the way you are. I love your curves. I love your body. I love everything about you."
You open your mouth to deny, but Sirius clamps a hand over your mouth, shaking his head and smiling lightly. "No, let me tell you just how pretty you are, baby." He takes his hand off your mouth and holds you at arm's length, his hands on your waist.
Sirius moves his hands to your stomach and smiles at you, his eyes never once leaving yours. "I love your adorable little belly pouch, it's the perfect place to lay my head on. And when you wear tight dresses, it makes you look like an angel," he coos, and you feel your heart melt as he squeezes your stomach gently. He moves his hands to your sides, tracing the length of your hips with his long, slender fingers.
"These stretch marks, they're beautiful. They're yours. And they make your skin look like a veil of golden stardust with dark marks of the galaxy peeking through," he says earnestly, his grin widening as he sees your cheeks start to redden.
Sirius trails his hands to your thighs, pinching them playfully. "And my favourite place to be is in between these jaw-droppingly stunning thighs," he smirks, earning a watery chuckle from you as you slap his arm away playfully. Grateful tears start to pool in your eyes again as he pulls you towards him, burying your head in his chest. "I wish you could see yourself the way I see you, angel." he murmurs, affection coating his voice as he whispers in your ear. "You're beautiful. And don't you ever doubt that, okay?"
You nod against his chest as the tears stream down your cheeks. "Thank you," you choke out, feeling your heart swell with love for your boyfriend who accepted your body, heck - who worshipped it. He presses a soft kiss to the crown of your head. "Nothing to thank me for. If my girl forgets just how godly she looks, I don't mind reminding her." You hear the smile in his voice and pull back slightly to see the smirk start to take over his handsome features.
Sirius wipes your tears away and takes your hand, pulling you towards the bed. That earns a giggle from you as he announces cheekily, "Now, let me kiss every part of your hell of a body and remind you just how perfect you are."

James' keys rattled softly in the doorway as he stepped into the house, his eyes already darting around the living room looking for you. It was your day off, and he had bought back your favorite noodles just because. Dropping his bag on the couch, he clutched the box of food in his hand and climbed up the stairs excitedly, a wide grin on his face. Lethargy seeped into his bones, but his heart swelled with excitement at the thought of being wrapped in your loving embrace.
James rushed toward your room, opening his mouth to call out your name, but the words died in his throat when he caught sight of you. You sat on your bad, knees up to your chest and arms wrapped around yourself, body wracking with sobs. He felt his heart sink when he noticed how you were trembling, how the tears dribbled down your chin.
He pushed the door slightly so as to not scare you but you flinched anyway, glancing up once to look at him before a louder sob escaped you and you glanced back down embarrassedly. He makes a wrangled sort of noise in his throat and rushes towards you, dropping the box of noodles onto the bed without a care. He really did try to go slow, but in his defence, he couldn't help giving you a hug when you looked up at him with that pretty tear-stained face.
James wraps you up into his arms and you gratefully reciprocate, burying your head in his chest and inhaling the scent of his deodorant. "Dove," he coos, rubbing circles onto your back and pressing small kisses to the top of your head. "What happened?"
"Sorry," you croak out between sobs, "I don't know why I'm crying. I just- I heard a sad song and it all came out." His eyebrows scrunch up anxiously and he sighs. "That's okay, lovie. You're okay. You can let it out," he whispers, half relieved and half worried at your explanation. That sets on a whole new wave of tears, and James makes a pitiful noise before he starts to kiss your hair and whispers sweet nothings into your ear. He squeezes you protectively in his embrace, and he smells like home. He is home.
Soon, your tears slow and you pull away slightly to wipe at your eyes. Sniffling, you look up to find him smiling softly at you, and you do your best to smile back. It mustn't have been a very convincing smile, because he frowns before he dips down to kiss the tear trails on your cheeks. You blush slightly, veering your face away. "Sorry about breaking down like that," you mumble.
"Nonsense, dove. Nothing to be sorry for. Do you feel better now?" James asks gently, rubbing his hands up and down your sides as he presses a quick kiss to your nose. You giggle as you feel the ticklish sensation, and that earns a real grin from him and he kisses your nose again. "Loads better," you smile, squeezing his waist tightly and nestling your head in the crook of his neck.
"I got you your favorite spicy noodles by the way," he says, gently swaying you in his embrace. "Really?" you mumble, sounding dangerously close to tears again as your heart swells with gratitude. "Thank you. I don't deserve you," you mumble, more to yourself than to him.
He presses a kiss to the top of your head again, before pulling away slightly to press one to your lips. A smile starts to curve your lips and you peck him again, adoration bubbling up within you. James starts to grin cheekily and nuzzles his nose into yours. "Don't say that again, lovie. You're wrong. You deserve all the nice things in the world, and I think I'm pretty nice, don't you?"

"Why the fuck would you do that? Why would you fucking flirt with her?"
"I wasn't flirting with her, goddamn it! I was being nice!"
"Yeah, being nice meant giving her a kiss goodbye, didn't it?"
"I didn't kiss her! Oh my god, I- I could hit you right now!" Sirius yelled, the last drops of his anger ringing in the silence as you flinch, reflexively bringing your hands up to cover your face. His eyes widen in shock, then understanding. He opens and closes his mouth a few times before slowly stepping towards you.
"You're trembling. Oh my god, you're trembling. I'm so sorry," he murmurs, reaching one hand out towards you, as though you were some rabid animal. You instinctively move away from his touch. "No, I- I'm fine," you choke out, lowering your trembling hands. "I'm okay, sorry. I didn't mean to do that. I'm sorry."
He coos in pity, stepping towards you again, but stopping short when he sees the way you wince. He sighs and drops his hands to his sides. "No, it's my fault. I shouldn't have yelled at you. I... I took it too far. I'm so sorry, dove." he murmurs, looking at you with concern. Given both yours and his past, living in abusive households had pushed the both of you to make a promise never to yell at each other.
Sirius broke that promise. He broke your trust. The thought of that caused you to let out a sob, and you squish your hand to your mouth to muffle it. Sirius makes a strangled sort of noise in his throat as he reaches out towards you again. "Baby," he breathes out, voice laced with hurt. "Can I hug you?" You hesitate for a moment. Then you nod, and he closes the distance between you.
Sirius gently wraps his arms around you, unsure just how much you want. But when you bury your head in his chest and tighten your hold around him, he squeezes you in a strangling hug. You lean into the embrace gratefully. "I'm so sorry. I don't want to do this,” you sniffle into his chest, your tears wetting his shirt. "Do what, love?" he asks quietly, stroking your hair.
“I feel like I'm guilt-tripping you. I'm sorry. I don't wanna be the girl that flinches." He places a gentle kiss on the top of your head and buries his face in your hair. "I know you don't, baby. Heck, we both don't wanna be that person. But you're not guilt-tripping me. I get it, and I shouldn't have broken our promise. I'm sorry. It happened just this once, never again."
You hum in response, a few more tears slipping down your cheeks as you stay in the tight embrace. "Were you cheating, though?" you mumble, your voice starting to shake with anxiety.
"No," he responds immediately, no hesitation in his words. Sirius clutches you tighter. "I wasn't, and I'm sorry if I made it seem that way. Lily's always been a pal, and that's all she'll ever be. I shouldn't have hugged her like that if it made you uncomfortable."
You feel relief blooming in your chest at his words, and you nod silently, finally pulling away slightly to look at him. You raise your head to meet his eyes, and he smiles softly at you, his eyes full of guilt and love as he presses a kiss between your eyebrows. "There's my beautiful girl," he murmurs, grinning as he rubs his thumbs over your cheeks, his forehead resting on yours. "Now, how about we go get some ice cream? You could have two scoops, on me."
You smile back, and Sirius' eyes light up as though you've personally strung up all the stars in the sky. "Three scoops?" you ask, widening your eyes and pouting in an attempt at a puppy face. He looks you up and down, rolls his eyes and sighs, the hint of a smile on his lips. "Just this once, sweetheart. But you gotta share."
You shake your head and groan in mock defeat, earning a chuckle from him as he helps you put on your sweater and presses a loving kiss to your lips.

Your hands instinctively come up to shield your face as confetti rains down in the Great Hall for the third time that evening.
A frown settles on your face as you slowly lower your arms, feeling the split second when your hand comes into contact with a drink on the refreshments table and knocks it to the ground. A frustrated groan escapes your lips.
You flick the remnants of the drink off your hand and sigh, moving away from the table to go lean on another wall. You shuffle your way through the various couples giggling and dancing and snogging, feeling your resentment grow by the second. Once you’ve safely reached the other side of the mob in the middle of the hall, your eyes rake over the place.
As usual, Hogwarts was shimmering with splendour for the annual ball. Fairy lights adorned the ceilings, and decorated tables were laden with every type of food you could think of. The long tables in the centre had been cleared to allow for dancing, while the Weird Sisters played popular tunes at the front of the hall.
You tried not to let it get to you, but as you awkwardly shuffle around to make way for couples trying to get past you, a dull ache makes its way into your heart.
Kingsley Shacklebolt had very sweetly asked you to the school dance a couple of days ago and you had agreed. The whole evening had been spent in preparation for tonight, doing makeup with the girls and putting on your lovely dress adorned with golden butterflies. But Kingsley fell terribly ill an hour before the dance, and couldn’t muster the strength to even get out of bed.
It was unfortunate, something you were so looking forward to going wrong like this. Especially since you really really liked Kingsley.
You sigh, loneliness and embarrassment starting to get the better of you as you resign yourself to staying as an onlooker. Couples fade in and out of your vision, twirling and prancing around. A huff of resentment escapes you as you try not to glare too hard at those having fun.
Just when you stand up straight, deciding that there was no point staying, you feel a hand on your shoulder and startle. Turning around, you come face-to-face with a grinning James Potter.
“Hey Pickle. You doing good?” he asks, his smile widening as he sees the frown on your face.
That was what James had called you since you first met on the Hogwarts express years ago, a timid first-year crashing straight into the most popular third-year in the school. You bumped into him while holding a jar of pickles (god knows why), and ended up hurling them all over him. He laughed it off while you apologised incessantly and cleaned him up. He thought you were adorable.
That day, James pestered you about yourself till you snapped, and the two of you were inseparable ever since.
“No, Potty. I’m not doing good. Kingsley’s sick,” you mutter, trying to veil the hurt in your voice with anger. He lets out a sympathetic coo and softens, his hand moving down to take yours.
You sigh, your anger dissipating to leave disappointment. “I’m gonna leave,” you murmur, turning around to get to the door. But his grip on your hand remains firm. You turn back around, brows furrowed in confusion.
He's smiling at you, tugging on your hand with that mischievous James Potter twinkle in his eyes. “Come on, Pickle.”
“What?”
“Come on. One dance?”
“Jame-“
“Pickle! You’re no fun. Pleaaaaase?”
You groan, mocking reluctance as you let yourself be led by him as he pulls you to the dance floor. “I can’t dance.”
“You don’t have to, I can do it well enough for the both of us,” James grins. He wraps his arm around your waist, takes your hand in his other one.
He pokes at your hand, gesturing for you to put it on his shoulder. You sigh and do as you’re told. He gives you a small smile and you soften, unable to help smiling back in return.
As the two of you position yourself, the loud manic pop music previously playing comes to an end. A gasp escapes you, your eyes lighting up as you hear the first notes of ‘O Children’ start to play. A childhood favourite, your mum’s go-to song to sing.
James chuckles, slowly starting to sway you along to the beat.
‘Lift up your voice, lift up your voice…’
You move along with him, closing your eyes and feeling the rhythm.
‘Children!...’
James’ footing is perfect, yours is haphazard. His movements are elegant, yours rusty. His dancing on beat, yours attempting to be. But the smile that graces both of your faces is the same.
‘Rejoice, rejoice…’
A giggle escapes you as he twirls you around, both of you bursting out into laughter as you trip on his shoe and your face lands smack on his chest. None of you pull away.
You stay like that for a while, your face buried in your shoulder as he holds you close. The two of you move from side to side in time with the music. You melt into his touch, feeling all your disappointment disappear as you tenderly dance to the soft tune.
“Thanks, James,” you murmur gratefully. He smiles down at you.
“Hey, none of that. You’re my Pickle - of course I had to pester you to dance, I always will,” he chuckles, ruffling your hair. You grin into his shoulder, playfully punching him in the stomach.
“And this song better be playing at your wedding. I need to show everyone, especially your future husband, just how much you suck at dancing.”
“James!”
He laughs, wincing as you pull away to smack him on the shoulder. He pushes you back, but catches you before you tumble to the floor. The two of you are clutching your stomachs and each other’s hands.
You and James dissolve into heaps of laughter and joy, just like you always do.

The empty food packets strewn all over the living room must’ve been a testament to how you were feeling. Sirius notices it, and the grimy smell that envelopes your apartment, as he quietly enters and kicks off his shoes.
It gets worse as he enters the hallway, food crumbs and empty bottles of beer littering the floor. He stops short right in front of your door. The place was a mess; he deduced that you were probably the same.
Sirius knocks carefully so as to not frighten you, straining his ears to hear the soft sound of your sniffling.
“Yeah?”
There’s so much pain in your breaking voice, Sirius thinks he can physically feel it cutting through his heart. “Hi baby, it’s me. Can I come in?”
It’s quiet for a moment before you let out a defeated “Okay.”
He slowly pushes open the door, eyes searching around the messy room before they finally land on you.
You were all curled up, knees to your chest and chin placed in between as you stared lifelessly at the wall in front of you with tears dribbling down your cheeks. Your hands were slotted under your thighs, and one look at that told him exactly what was wrong.
Sirius makes his way over to sit in front of you, tugging you closer until your knees were smushed between the two of you with his strong arms caressing your back. He rubs it slowly, feeling your T-shirt ride up as he traces shapes on your spine.
He doesn’t say anything, doesn’t need to. He knows you would want to tell him yourself. “Siri,” you start, your voice nothing louder than a murmur.
“Yeah, love?” he whispers back, head tucked on your shoulder as he presses a kiss to the side of your head.
“It’s getting bad again,” you choke out, and Sirius feels the tears wetting his shirt. He pulls away slightly to nudge your knees apart until they’re wrapped around his hips, and you’re pressed against him with your face buried in the crook of his neck.
“It’s okay, baby. It’s gonna be okay.”
He lets you sob, and does his best to keep his own tears in. You were weak, so it was his turn to be strong for you.
This was a common occurrence in the process of your healing; which you’d agreed to start when Sirius had first discovered the red lines marring your wrists a few months ago. He’d cried, you’d cried, and a promise was made to help you get better.
You were working hard, but Sirius knew that sometimes the demons were too big to run away from, the days were too gloomy to shine a light upon. Relapses were bound to happen.
And so he continues to hold you as you fall apart, picking the broken pieces up, and having faith in the fact that you’d try your hardest to fix yourself back up tomorrow.
“I thought I was getting better. But today was just… bad. So bad.”
Sirius squeezes you impossibly tighter, swallowing the lump in his throat before he answers. “You are getting better, sweet girl. You are. One bad day doesn’t change the number of good days you’ve been having.”
All he gets is a small guilty croak in response. He tugs on your arms from underneath your thighs, and brings them to his sides.
You feel his slender fingers slipping under the long-sleeved material, hovering over the indents on your wrists. You press your face further into his shoulder shamefully.
Sirius continues to rub your back with one hand, bringing your wrist up to his lips with the other as he gently kisses the new streaks of red. He feels your body shuddering against him, and his heart sinks for the pain he knows is clawing at you.
“Love, listen to me,” he says tenderly, and you feel his breath on your wrist. “Today doesn’t mean anything, okay? You’re so strong for even trying to fight the urge.”
The guilt tears at you, knowing that you had failed to stop yourself once again. “But-“
“No buts, gorgeous. You tried and that’s all that matters. I’m proud of you. So proud that I’m gonna buy you a medal from the dollar store tomorrow.”
He smiles softly upon hearing your wet chuckle, which immediately turns to tears again when he starts to pepper sweet kisses on your other wrist.
“You’re gonna get clean, you hear me?” he whispers as he feels the scars against his lips. “You’re gonna get clean, one step at a time. And I’m sticking with you through all of it.”
A warbled thank you bubbles out of you as he sighs, dropping your wrist to cup your head and bury his face in your hair.
Your hair had a reek to it, he noted. The house was a mess, and your heart was breaking. But Sirius knew there was no way he could love you any more than he did, flaws and all. He was determined to be there for you through all of it, the good days and the bad ones.

Normally, you wouldn’t bother. You hated crowded places, and Beanie’s was the definition of crowded – an old-style cafe which had blown up overnight because of its scrumptious donuts and vintage aesthetic. But who were you to deny the cravings of the woman bearing your goddaughter?
You take a deep breath and push the creaky wooden door open, cringing at how the bell rang and signalled the whole cafe to your presence. But no one so much as looked up, busy trying to buy or sell food, or find a table.
You push your way through the sea of people, joining the queue in front of the counter. It was long, you noted, and would probably take another fifteen minutes or so until it was your turn to place an order. You fish out your crumpled book from your bag and turn it to the page you had stopped on yesterday. It was the second classic of the term – Pride and Prejudice. Taking literature as a major meant you spent more time reading than anything else, but you weren’t complaining.
As you read, you scribbled down plot points to take note of and quotes which meant something worth writing about. Your eyes stayed glued to the page, trying to work out hidden meanings and flowery language. Once you were back home, you’d have to compile all your analysis onto that worksheet Professor Ragnarsson had given out, write the 10-page long review, and then –
“Hey! Shut the damn book and order, will you?”
Your heart jumps in your chest at the sudden harsh tone. You close your book and whip your head around to see a middle-aged man glaring at you before peering down at his watch. “There’s a long queue, and we don’t have all day.”
The heat rushes to your cheeks as you open your mouth to apologise – but before you can say anything, you hear an oddly soothing voice from behind you. “Hey, don’t be a jerk. She didn’t know the counter was open.”
You glance back towards the counter, and you swear your heart stopped beating for a second. Angelic was an understatement to describe the man standing in front of you, tall and lanky and absolutely fucking beautiful.
His chestnut brown hair perfectly framed his pale face, eyebrows furrowed in annoyance as he glanced at the rude customer behind you. There were pinkish scars tracing from above his eyebrows to right below his lips, but they looked golden under the orange light – he looked like some kind of heavenly being.
When his eyes dart back to you, his expression instantly softened, lips tilting upwards in a smile. You thought you would melt into a puddle right there and then just by gazing into his warm, honeyed eyes. “Hi, gorgeous. What can I get you?”
You blink, your mouth involuntarily falling open slightly. Gorgeous? Was he talking to you? Maybe he was referring to the man behind you.
His smile widens, and that does absolutely nothing to calm the feeling of your heart bouncing around in your stomach. “It’s okay if you can’t choose just yet, I know the number of options can be…” he chuckles, “overwhelming. Take all the time you need to decide.”
Oh my god, you thought. His laugh sounded musical, like the tender feeling of being enveloped in a warm embrace. You’d put it on a record player and play it on loop for hours if you could.
“Hurry the fuck up –”
“One more word from you and you won’t be getting your coffee today, buddy,” the godly-looking barista snapped in a slightly louder tone at the man behind you, face contorted in irritation.
You hear silent cursing behind you, a twinge of embarrassment turning you red. You quickly glance back up. “Sorry, hi, hello. I’ll um… I…” the words were on the tip of your tongue, but seemed to dissolve when he glanced at you with those agonisingly pretty eyes and kind smile.
Snap out of it, you internally curse as you open your mouth again. “I’ll get three peanut butter-jelly donuts, and four chocolate donuts.”
“Okay. Which chocolate ones?” he asks, tapping his tongs against the display dome with stacks of donuts. There really were a lot of options – chocolate sprinkles, belgian chocolate, chocolate glazed, double chocolate – your mind seemed to freeze up for a second. Which one would Madison want?
You quickly look behind you, seeing the man’s face twisted up in what looked like rage. It seemed to be taking him all his willpower not to lash out at you, and the customers behind him didn’t look much far off.
You turn back to the counter, eyes wide with panic as you feel the blood rush to your head. You had never been good at this; thinking and choosing on the spot. That’s why Subway was always a no-go for you, that’s why Madison had specifically told you what to get her – just that she hadn’t been specific enough. “I… I’m not sure. I think, um…”
“Hey, take it easy,” you look back up to see Remus giving you a reassuring smile, a slight hint of concern on his face. Your despair must have been embarrassingly evident, then. “It’s alright if you can’t choose. Do you want me to pick for you?”
You ought to have been humiliated, the way you immediately nodded and gave in to his offer. But he just gave you an easy smile and nodded, picking up one of each type and placing them in the box.
“Thank you,” you mumble sheepishly as you move to the payment counter, fishing in your bag for a wad of notes.
“Of course,” he grins, and it was so bright you thought it could probably light up the whole cafe. “That’ll be $15.90.”
As he waits for you to pay, he takes a quick look down and begins to brush crumbs off his apron. You look up at the wrong moment, eyes immediately fixing on the curves of his biceps visible through his T-shirt, and his slender fingers.
He glances back up at you, catching a glimpse of your flustered look and instantly smirking. You look away abashedly, counting the money and handing it to him.
The brush of your fingers against his calloused palm sent a jolting shock through you as you quickly pull back, not missing the way his smile widened as he cashed the money into the register.
“Thanks for visiting, sweetheart. Hope to see you again soon.”
You don’t reply, afraid you’d crumble into a blushing, gooey mess. Flashing him a brief, nervous smile, you pick up the box of donuts before turning around and heading straight for the exit. Sweetheart.
You huff as you open the door and step outside, pulling out your phone to complain to Madison all about the stupidly handsome barista at her favourite cafe. God, he really knew what he was doing.
oh my gosh! I am in love! pleaseee continue this

tw: fluff, use of y/n
The rain patters down mercilessly, the tip-tap sound from where it’s hitting your file awfully loud. You break into a slight jog, holding the black file above your head as if it would offer some sort of protection against the downpour.
You were on the way back from the university, and had conveniently ignored your roommate’s reminders to bring an umbrella earlier that morning, because oh, are you sure you checked the forecast for the right day? and it hasn’t rained in weeks – why the hell would it rain today? Unfortunately, it did rain today.
The dampness soaked through your shoes as you moved, splashing upwards to wet your pants. You let out an exasperated sigh and lift your head, eyes darting around to seek shelter until the rain subsided.
In your peripheral vision, you could see a library – but that was way too chilly, given the way you were trembling. There was a bar, but… that was where your weird neighbour, Carl, went every evening. And you were in absolutely no mood to entertain his rambling. You wrap your arms around yourself, shivering as you trot a little further in an attempt to find a decent place. Wetness was seeping into your clothes, igniting a chill throughout your entire body.
As the seconds ticked by, you felt the frustration building up. Everything was just going so wrong today. Your lecturer had returned your analysis of Pride and Prejudice, and you had done so badly that it had to be redone. Plus, you were supposed to go out with Madison for lunch, but she had fallen horribly sick. And now, the torrential rain seemed to be mocking you – adding insult to injury.
The warm orange lighting of a sign came into view, and you squint your eyes to make out the words. Rubbing water off your face, you realise that the sign said Beanie’s. Well, it was a cafe – that was good enough. As you veered off the pathway to the right, you could smell freshly-baked cookies and coffee from the place. It better be warm inside, you thought. One more screw-up, and you genuinely believed you would burst.
You come to a stop outside the cafe, taking laboured gasps of air to catch your breath. You shake the water off your file and push the door open, stepping inside.
Fortunately, it was warm inside – you could feel the hot air blowing onto your skin immediately, drying your clothes from inside out. But to your misfortune, the heat seemed to be spreading to your face as well when you caught sight of the person behind the counter.
It had completely slipped your mind. But now it was all coming back to you, staring at his chiselled arms as he placed a plate of bagels on a tray. Your incident a few weeks ago, when you’d embarrassingly frozen on the spot and let the hot barista pick your donuts for you.
That had weighed on your mind for days, the way you had humiliated yourself in front of possibly the most angelic person on earth, and how said angel had treated you as though you were some kind of delicate flower.
You glance back out at the rain, drawing your lip in between your teeth as you contemplated your options. Either you went back out there, or you moved forward and ordered from Mr. Super Hot Barista. And you were definitely not going back into the rain.
Sucking in a deep breath, you brushed your soaked hair out of your face and wiped your hands on your sweatshirt. You shake off as much water as possible before walking towards the counter, feeling shivers run down your spine – from the cold or from shyness, you weren’t sure.
“Hi.” It comes out unnecessarily loudly, and you cringe. You actively try not to ogle at him, and your eyes fall on the tag on his shirt. Remus, it said. For fuck’s sake, even his name was pretty.
Mr. Super Hot Barista – Remus – looked up from the cookies he was boxing, his hazel eyes meeting yours. You could have sworn something like recognition flashed in his gaze. “Hey,” he smiled easily.
It was happening again, and you hated it. You felt your throat start to go dry as you held his gaze, and his smile slowly widened. You swallowed nervously, the quick drip, drip of water from your hair mirroring how fast your heart was beating. He very well knew the effect he was having on you, and was taking full advantage of it.
“So,” Remus started, “What would you like to order, sweetness?”
You thought you were going to pass out from the sheer amount of endearment in the nickname, eyes widening and cheeks turning pink. But you were a strong, independent young woman. And you were not going to let some random barista knock you off your feet.
“One small cappuccino, please,” you squeak, horrified at how small your voice was.
“Right,” he ducked his head to key it into the register, and you resist the urge to reach out and brush your fingers through his gorgeous curls. “And would you like any chocolate donuts with that?”
You swore your stomach flipped upside down at the comment – he remembered your little situation. Your hands come up to cover your reddening cheeks as you involuntarily let out an embarrassed groan.
The sound of his soft chuckle only exacerbates the sensation of your heart bobbing up and down in your chest. “Sorry, sorry – just messing with you.”
You let out a strangled sort of noise, still unwilling to look up and let him see just how flushed you probably were. When you press your face further into your palms, his voice softens. “Hey, I’m not trying to put you on the spot, I swear. I’m sorry.”
The slight tinge of guilt in his voice makes you look up immediately as you drop your hands to your sides. You see him standing in front of the coffee machine, preparing your cappuccino. “No, no. You’re not putting me on the spot, I’m just –” you sputter out, letting out a nervous chortle.
“God, you’re really embarrassed, aren’t you?” he breathes out in quiet laughter. “Calm down, pretty girl. I promise I won’t bite.” That majorly sucks, you thought. You envisioned how his lips would look biting into a cream puff, cursing yourself for even thinking of it a moment later.
“Okay,” you mumble, flipping your slightly less damp hair over your shoulder. And the next thing you utter, you don’t even think about it before saying it. “Don’t call me pretty girl.”
You immediately slap a hand to your mouth, eyes widening in shock at your own tongue. Literature students, and the yappers they are, Madison had once complained. Now you knew just how right she was.
Remus let out an amused snort, his lips curving upwards in a grin. “Okay, sorry, sweetness.”
“Don’t call me that either.”
“Someone’s picky,” he muttered, the smile still on his face as he pressed a lid onto the cup of coffee before pushing it towards you. “What can I call you, then?”
“Y/n,” you mumble, praying that your delight at having been asked your name was not showing on your face.
“Y/n,” he lets it roll around on his tongue, a sweet smile playing on his lips. He scribbles something onto your cup. “That’s a nice name.”
“You too,” you say without thinking, glancing downwards to pull money out the pocket of your pants. You look up to find him eyeing you with his eyebrow arched. A giggle escapes you as you point at his nametag. “Remus, right?”
He looks down at his shirt and chuckles, realisation lighting up his face. “Yeah, my name’s Remus.”
Remus glances back up as you drop the money into his hand. And you’re very careful not to let your fingers brush against his palm this time.
His smile was soft and sunny, making it feel like it had never even rained in the first place. “Bye.”
“Bye,” you echo, your heart fluttering in your chest as you offer him a smile. You turn around to find a table, and just then realise that the cafe was as crowded as it was the last time you were here, if not more.
You purse your lips worriedly. It was still storming outside, and you really needed to get started on your failed analysis and your newly assigned one –
“Y/n!”
You swivel back around to find Remus grinning at you. “You can sit here,” he gestures at the bar stools in front of the platform, which were unoccupied. “I get lonely anyway. It’ll be nice to have some fun company.”
“Oh,” you murmur, an unignorable sense of relief settling over you. “Okay, thanks.” You make your way over, setting your coffee and tote bag down on the platform before hauling yourself up onto the stool.
As he picks up donuts and packs them into boxes, you pull out your book and a stack of foolscap. Remus glances up at the sound, his face immediately lighting up. “M.L. Rio?”
You nod. If We Were Villains was the next book you were assigned to work on.
“That was a good book,” he says casually as he begins to work again. “Why, are you annotating it or something?”
You try not to beam. He reads, your brain was screaming at you. He reads and he has excellent fucking taste. Could he possibly be more perfect?
“Not just annotating,” you reply, a pleased lilt to your voice. “Analysing, for a project. Oh – I forgot to mention, I’m majoring in literature.”
“Literature, huh?” he grins as he sets his tongs down, and he looks almost bemused. “Interesting.”
You pull out a pen and begin to write, the smile never fading from your face. He lets you work in silence, the only sound being the metallic clinking of tongs as he packs pastries into bags and boxes.
“Hot take,” he says suddenly, a couple minutes later. You look up, surprised. “I don’t believe James was some sort of tragic hero, as people make him out to be. I think he was the villain.”
“No.”
“Yes,” he snorts, and a laugh bubbles out of you. “That’s a ridiculous opinion.”
Remus rolls his eyes. “As a literature student, I think you need to be more open-minded.”
“The title is ‘If We Were Villains’, not ‘I Am The Villain’!” you retort indignantly, earning a loud bout of laughter from him. He shakes his head indulgently, continuing to stack boxes. “Great point.”
You can hear the deadpan in his voice, but decide to take it as a victory anyway. Grinning, you get back to your book as a comfortable silence settles over the both of you.
It was hard, but you were trying your hardest not to glance up at him every once in a while. The glowy orange light on the ceiling shone down on him, and you felt your curiosity growing towards the pale scars that decorated his face.
Whenever he caught you staring, you immediately evaded his gaze and took a sip of your coffee, or jotted something onto your paper. You thought you may have seen him trying not to smile a couple of times.
You blink as you glanced at your foolscap, which was full of random squiggly lines and words written in an attempt to make it seem like you were concentrating. But it was absolutely impossible to focus with Remus in front of you.
You furrow your eyebrows disappointedly. It really was important that you finished this up by tonight, and you were obviously not getting any work done here. One look outside told you that, unfortunately, the rain had stopped and the moon had come out.
Remus perked up when he heard the shuffling coming from you. He looked up to see you packing your things. “Leaving so soon?”
“Sorry,” you mutter as you pick up your cup of coffee, almost finished with it. “I’ve got more work to do at home.” The stool screeches as you stand up, slinging your tote bag over your shoulder. You rake your fingers through your hair – you had spent so long in the cafe, it was completely dry now.
He smiles, “Nah, you don’t need to apologise. It was fun talking to you.”
Your heart smiled at that. “Yeah, I had fun too.”
He stays silent for a moment, observing you. Your face starts to feel hot again. “Okay then, I’m gonna go.”
“Hey, wait a minute,” he calls out, causing you to turn back around.
You tilt your head questioningly. “There’s a poetry reading happening here, tomorrow, at 5pm. You like poetry?”
“Yeah,” you reply. “Yeah, I like poetry.”
He nods, the hint of a smile on his lips. “Come round if you’re free. I think you’ll like it.”
It felt like fireworks had begun to explode everywhere within you, from your head to toes and even in those little spaces between your fingers. “Okay,” you murmur. Your heart was tingling with excitement. “I’ll try to make it.”
“Great,” he grins, chucking his hands in his pockets as he leaned against the platform behind him. “Cool, then. See you.”
“See you,” you smile dazedly, pivoting and walking towards the exit with your coffee in hand. Your beam widened as you walked out, strolling back home as you sipped your coffee.
Remus had invited you to a poetry reading. A poetry reading.
Your cheeks ached from how hard you were grinning. You drink the last bit of your cappuccino, going to throw it in a bin on the street. That’s when you caught sight of something scrawled in black ink on the side of the cup.
There was a heart next to your name, and a number below it. Call me, pretty girl, it said in brackets.
You skipped all the way home.

regulus black x whimsical!reader
“Baby,” Regulus’ voice comes out two parts affection and one part exasperation as he feels your knees pressing down into the bed on either side of him. You hum distractedly in response, mind wandering to places he knows he can never follow.
He cracks his eyes open, a small smile involuntarily making its way onto his face at the sight of you. You’re as pretty as you always are, so pretty he wonders if you’re actually a dryad of some sort. You certainly look the part, with daisies braided into your hair and miniature toadstool earrings.
He watches as you outstretch your fingers to fiddle with the chain on his neck, your eyebrows bunched in concentration. Your tongue juts out of your lip adorably as you bite down on it, and he resists the urge to kiss you senseless.
The chain Regulus was wearing was nothing more than a thick black string, but it was knotted around various small crystals, courtesy of your hobby of collecting them. When he had first asked you out with a ring, you had shyly given him this string with a single crystal hanging from it – a rose quartz. “For my unconditional love,” you had mumbled, blushing so hard he thought you mirrored a rose. But the pink that coated your cheeks was a lovelier shade than any flower he had laid his eyes on.
From then on, you would knot new crystals onto the string whenever you found them. Regulus was pretty sure some of them had to have been rocks or pebbles, but he loved you too much not to indulge you.
“Mon chéri,” he tries again, amusement seeping into his tone. “It’s 5 in the morning.”
“So?” you ask distractedly, your fingers still tugging and pulling his necklace from side to side. “5AM is when the crystals are most active, you know. This is when they pull the most power from the core of the earth,” you explain matter-of-factly, so dedicated to your task that you don’t notice his smile widening.
You sway forward slightly, unable to balance on the balls of your knees. Regulus silently wraps his palms around your hips, tugging downward until you’re comfortably seated on his stomach.
That was when he noticed you had odd-shaped stones in one of your hands, sunlight reflecting off of them to give a pale blue glow. “What are those?”
You perk up at his question, abandoning your task of trying to tie the stones onto the string. Your head tilts upwards to give him a sunny smile. “They’re aquamarine crystals, obviously.”
“Yeah?” he murmurs, his smile softening. It doesn’t matter how many times you do this, it’s always just as endearing to him. The way you smile fondly at him – like he’s silly for not knowing.
“Yeah,” you beam. “I found these in the stream nearby, the one next to the big daisy field with all the horsies.”
“You walked into the water again, then?”
It’s too laden with fondness to sound accusatory, but you turn slightly sheepish anyway, nodding. Your hands find their way back to his necklace, and this time you manage to loop the string around a crystal successfully. Your face lights up, obviously pleased with your work.
He huffs out a laugh, leaning forward to run his hands down your long skirt. As expected, he finds it damp and sticky. “You’ll have to take a bath, mon amour.”
“In the stream?”
“No,” he mutters, trying but failing to conceal his amused grin. He presses his elbows into the mattress, hoisting himself upwards to press an amorous kiss to your forehead. He can’t help himself, the blush on your cheeks and the shy smile too much for his heart to handle. “In the shower, baby.”
“Oh,” you reply as a way of answer, and Regulus can’t help but chuckle at the slight disappointment in your voice. “Maybe I can shower in the water tomorrow, then? With all the ducks. These ducks are nice; they eat the bread I throw at them. You can come too if you’d like.”
“Maybe,” he replies indulgently, with absolutely no intention of letting you bathe with the ducks instead of with him — but he was never one to deny you anything you asked for.

barista!remus x shy!reader
You smoothen the ruffles on your dress, twirling this way and that. One last glance at the mirror was spent convincing yourself you looked fine before you finally stepped out of your apartment.
The wind blew your hair back as you walked, the click-clack of your boots on the pavement mirroring the thumping of your heart. It was loud and fast, so much so that you wouldn’t be surprised if there was a bomb waiting to explode in you.
The barista, Remus — possibly the loveliest human being on earth, had invited you to a poetry reading at Beanie’s. He scribbled down his number onto your coffee cup too, which had to have meant something.
The nerves were starting to get the better of you, your heart climbing its way up your throat as you neared the café.
This was the first time you so desperately wished that you hadn’t majored in literature, that you didn’t feel the impact of words as deeply as you did. A poetry reading would definitely trigger the part of you which didn’t shut up once uncorked, and you were praying you didn’t mess this whole thing up with your tendency to ramble.
Beanie’s was always crowded, but as you pushed the door open, the largeness of the mob was startlingly obvious. You couldn’t help but think it looked more like a fish market than a café, feeling skin against skin as you pushed past people.
There was a small stage set up at the corner, fairy lights strung above it. At the moment, there was a teenage girl timidly reciting something from a scrunched up piece of paper. You paid her no heed, craning your neck to find Remus.
Just then, an arm wrapped around your waist and you yelp, head swivelling to come face to face with Madison. “Hi, gorgeous.”
You sigh, feeling the tension leave your shoulders as she gives you a peck on the cheek. Of course, she came. Your best friend wouldn’t shut up for hours after you told her Remus had given you his number. “Hey.”
“Where is he?” she asks immediately, trying to follow your line of vision.
You shrug, eyes darting around till you spot someone’s gaze trained on you from across the café. It’s not Remus, by any means. But he’s undeniably attractive, long black curls and tattoos all over. Once you finally meet his eyes, he grins and wriggles his eyebrows. Who the fuck —
Just then, Remus sticks his head out from behind the stranger and beams at you, giving you a wave. You immediately shift your gaze to him, your heart feeling like it can’t decide whether it wants to be in your throat or chest.
A small smile makes its way onto your face as you wave back, trying to shove your way over to him with Madison on your heels.
“And now, we’ve got Remus Lupin, with The Bell Jar by Sylvia… um… Plait? Plaque! Sylvia Plaque!” a waiter suddenly squeaks into the microphone before scurrying off stage. You pause in your movements, Remus giving you an almost apologetic smile before he climbs up.
“Hello,” he tests the microphone, his lips curving upwards as some members in the crowd cheer. You notice that the black-haired man from earlier seemed particularly enthusiastic, yelling “Go, Moony!” and sticking his fingers in his mouth to whistle.
You train your vision back on Remus as he starts to speak. “So, this isn’t exactly a poem,” he starts. “It’s an excerpt from one of my favourite books. And it really resonated with me, so I’d like to share it with you.”
You listen silently, anticipating whatever he was going to say next. It was alarming how much this mattered to you, that he had good choices in stories and poems and words. Because how were you to fall in love with a man who didn’t feel lingo as deafeningly as he felt the beat of his heart? He wouldn’t be able to understand you; you were sure, if he couldn’t listen to the silent pleas of scribbles on pages. You conversed like a book, like you were begging to be understood and silently guarded in the heart of one’s brain – and you only hoped that there was someone out there willing to peruse scripture after scripture till he memorised the language of your lips. Right now, you were really wishing that someone was the gorgeous man in front of you.
“I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story…”
Your eyes flutter shut as you lose yourself in his soliloquy. You don’t just hear his speech, but you listen. You listen to the ache that seeps into his voice, the silent rasp of air leaving his lips as he stresses on words he deems important, the sheer longing etched in every word. And you couldn’t see it, but you could feel his gaze on you, you could feel the string connecting his heart straight to yours.
“...they plopped to the ground beneath my feet,” he finishes. A slow, somewhat hesitant round of applause sounds in the café.
You open your eyes, unsurprised to find them misty. You bring your fingers to your cheeks and swipe the tears away. Madison was gripping one of your hands, squeezing it. The both of you were used to this, your onslaught of tears whenever you felt a little too hard.
You watch as Remus steps off the stage, disappearing into the sea of people. Someone else climbs up, and you zone out, getting lost in your thoughts once more.
“Hey.” You blink, looking up to see Remus in front of you now, his pretty face scrunched up a bit in worry. “Hey, Y/n. You okay? Saw you getting a little emotional just now.”
Madison makes a small squeal of excitement, and Remus flashes her a small smile before turning back to you, patiently waiting for you to respond.
A teary chuckle bubbles out of you, “Sorry, yeah, I’m all good. It’s just – that was really something. It hurt in the best way. You have great taste, you know.”
He softens at your confession, a smile playing on the edges of his lips. “Thank you. And I get it, I couldn’t stop crying for almost an hour when I first read it.”
You let out a real laugh at the thought of that, and his smile breaks into a grin. He reaches forward, and you barely have a moment to comprehend it before he’s wiping away the tears on your cheeks. You really hope he can’t feel the heat emanating from your skin, or hear the giggles from beside you.
You make it a point to shoot Madison a dirty look as he pulls his hand away. “On another note,” he starts, and you can hear his slight cockiness at having you all flustered, “I didn’t think you’d come.”
“Of course –” you meant to say that you’d cleared your schedule to be able to make it, but the words die on your tongue as he whips a rose stalk out from behind his back and holds it out for you.
You stare up at him blankly, feeling your heartbeat growing more erratic by the second. “A small thank you for attending.”
“You give it to all the customers, then?”
“No. Just the prettiest one.”
You press a hand to your mouth to stop yourself from gasping, and shakily reach out to take the flower from him. Twisting it in your fingers, you feel your heart start to turn to mush – he had cut off all the thorns on the stalk.
“Thank you.”
He grins, and it’s more endearing than the rose between your fingers. A sideway glance at your best friend tells you she’s at the edge of combusting into giggles and swoons.
“Hello, lovely ladies.”
Your gaze shifts to the right of Remus to see that man, the good-looking one who had been staring at you from afar. You arch an eyebrow, but Madison matches his energy. “Hey, handsome.”
His eyes linger on you. “You’re Y/n, I assume. Moony – Remus has told me all about you.” Your heart does a backflip and you glance at Remus, only to find him already smiling at you.
“But you,” he turns to your best friend, his thoughtful expression morphing into a grin. “Who might you be?”
“Madison.”
“Madison,” he drawls. “Sirius.”
You watch as Sirius compliments her dress, and she turns a red so deep it could rival how you had been minutes ago. And you smile, because you knew she’d been belittling herself over her appearance with the baby bump.
Remus silently tugs on your hand, steering you away from them. He glances over at the two of them again, grinning. “Sorry about Sirius. The asshole can be such a flirt.”
You huff out a laugh. “No, it’s quite alright. Madison’s quite the lovergirl herself, and god knows she needs this after her previous relationship.”
He nods understandingly, and a silence settles over the two of you. “I’m glad you came. You know, studying literature and stuff, I thought you’d like it.”
“I’m glad I came too. But I’m sorry you had to see me like –” you chuckle nervously, doing a jazz hands in front of your face, “like this, tears and all.”
His curls bounce as he laughs, eyes crinkling at the corners. You couldn’t help but think that all the creative evocations you’ve ever read fell short in comparison to the depth of his eyes. “That’s nothing to apologise for, sweet girl. You look just as lovely even when you’re crying.”
You pull your lip between your teeth to stop the smile from spreading across your face, feeling your heart do a somersault in your chest.
“Babe –” Madison comes over, out of breath. “Can we leave? I still haven’t gotten the groceries for tonight. And you’re helping me with dinner.”
You glance over her shoulder to see Sirius watching her with hearts in his eyes, and you let out a soft snicker when you see tints of Madison’s maroon lipstick on his cheek. “Okay.”
Madison starts pulling you towards the exit. You cast a glance at Remus, smiling and waving.
“Y/n!” Remus calls out, and you tug on Madison’s fingers to get her to stop.
“Yeah?”
“How else would you like me to see you?”
You blink. “Huh?”
He chuckles. “You said you didn’t want me to see you like this, in tears. How else – where else can I see you, sweetness?”
Your heart jolts at his obvious attempts at flirting, and how easily it was working.
“Tammy’s Bookstore,” you almost mumble, shyness flooding into your voice. “8pm to 12am shift.”
Remus seems to have gotten the answer he wanted. “Cool. I’ll see you there sometime.”
You turn around before he can see how pink you’ve turned, urging Madison out the shop.
“And sweetheart? Use the phone number.”

tw: eating disorder recovery
Regulus knows where to find you, but he also knows better than to act like he was looking for you with two bowls of food in hand.
“Hey.”
You almost jump at the sound of his voice. You turn around from where you’re sitting on the porch, giving him a small smile. “Hi.”
His heart drops a little when he sees your face, with your sunken eyes and tired expression.
“I didn’t realize you were home already. Did you come through the back?”
He hums an affirmative, sitting down next to you on the steps leading out the house.
Out of the corner of his eye, he watches as you slouch onto the railing on your left, blankly staring out at the road. “How’s your day been?”
Regulus casually twirls his fork into the spaghetti in his bowl before bringing it to his mouth. Maybe he believes he’s being slick, you think, but it’s obvious that he’s got twice his usual serving.
“Today’s been fine, yeah. Just busy. How was work?”
He nods in response, “Good, actually. Mark finally sent me the files I needed to get that huge contract signed, and —” He presses his fork into the pasta again, but this time brings it up to your mouth (hoping you’re too distracted to mind).
His heart drops and how instantly you swerve backwards, almost crashing into the step behind you.
“Reg,” it comes out as a betrayed hiss. You take a shaky exhale before sitting back upright. “I don’t want any; I’ve eaten dinner already.”
“Have you?”
“Yes, I —“
“Then why’s the kitchen completely clean?”
Regulus never takes a harsh tone with you, and he wasn’t going to start now. There’s nothing but quiet, genuine concern in the way he asks. Guilt claws at the back of your throat anyway.
It was one of your worse days; thoughts of excessive calories and not having worked out being all you could think about. You’d stared at yourself in the mirror for what seemed like hours, cursing every flaw of your body and wondering why me.
Without your boyfriend home, it had just felt like there was no reason to fatten yourself.
“Hey,” Regulus mutters, laying his palm facing upwards on your lap. You take it. “You’re getting in your head again.”
“Sorry.”
“Nothing to be sorry for, lovely girl.” He reaches out to gently brush a stray hair away from your face. “But do you think you could try to eat something? Please?”
Your heart stops, and it’s like your mind is reeling back into its hiding spot already. No lies on the tip of your tongue.
“It doesn’t have to be a lot, dove, he continues quietly, rubbing your fingers. “Just a few bites. You need fuel, you know.”
Regulus is looking into your eyes with that silent look now, the one which makes you feel like he’d do just about anything to save you from yourself. You don’t think you could ever say no to him.
And it wasn’t like you’d eaten anything today. You were allowed this, for your boyfriend, right?
“Fine.”
He smiles softy and tugs you closer, stamping a kiss to the side of your forehead and picking up the bowl of pasta from beside him. “So, remember that bouquet I bought you last week?”
He starts to make casual conversation as he feeds you, and you do your best to listen. It goes all the way from those flowers were expensive! to maybe we should get a cat — or a new apartment — but NOT a dog.
The food gets lodged in your throat every now and then, but you force yourself to swallow. The ‘full’ feeling starts to creep up on you like your shadow.
Regulus can sense it. “Okay, but why the hell do you like dogs?”
You decide to indulge him and go off on a tangent about the fluffy beasts, which pulls your mind away from its dark corner. The conversation makes the chore of eating easier.
You’re sure he knows what he’s doing, but you’re going to let him anyway.
Before you know it, you’re laughing so hard you don’t even realize the bowl is empty. He stands up to put it away before you get the chance to think too hard about it.
Regulus sits back down next to you. He starts to tell you about the stars, then, and you listen intently. It’s late, but you wouldn’t know what time it is. Time didn’t exist in your little bubble.
At one point you’ve curled into him the furthest you can. Your eyelids are being pulled down by the weight of fatigue, his comforting presence lulling you closer towards sleep.
He thinks you don’t hear it when he murmurs a soft I’m proud of you. You do.

i don’t know what this is… not a fic, more like a word vomit about remus loving you HAHA enjoy <3
Remus Lupin wasn’t religious in one way or another. But even he knew you were godsent.
Passed out, lying with twisted limbs and a drool-filled mouth; you looked nothing short of an angel.
He touches you, you don’t stir. That’s good, he thinks. It means he has more time to love you without having to accept undeserved affection in return.
He’d asked the question a thousand times, thought about it even more. Why me? And you’d smile at him like he wasn’t a monster, like he wasn’t born to kill. Who else? you’d say. And that’s when Remus realised that it doesn’t take kindness to love somebody; all it takes is that ache in your heart and burn in your fingertips. He wasn’t kind; yet he loved you.
The tips of his fingers dance across your cheek, feeling the soft skin on which his lips had made their home. He has unordinary courage tonight; he dares to bring his other hand to rest on the curve of your hip.
He brushes his thumb, featherlike, underneath your shirt. His shirt. You make a soft sound, and it’s all he needs to hear to know what heaven sounds like.
Remus had never felt like yours was more than a title until he met you. He was yours, yours to love, yours to break, yours to throw away. He belonged to you, and that was the greatest badge of honour any man could wear. He wanted you to touch him, make your mark upon him until it burnt, and he’d thank you for branding him with the etch of your thumbprint.
You were perfect; in every sense of the word. He’d learn every tongue till he was fluent in showing you how utterly divine you were. The dark lines on your thighs didn’t bother him nearly as much as they did you, and neither did the scars. He cursed himself reverently for his own; but never yours. Every mark on your being was a part of you, every inch of your skin a holy grail he’d read without complaint.
He’d worship you if you’d let him. Let his hands find their haven in every nook and crevice of your perfect body, whisper feverish words of cadence and cruelty till you screamed his name. You allowed him to touch you; and that was enough for now.
As he feels you now, mindlessly splaying his hands on your bare back, your eyes flutter open. Remus doesn’t think he’ll ever get used to the jerk of his heart stopping when you look at him like that. You reach for him with a smile even in half-lidded consciousness; he goes without protest because it’s you.
He knew forever wasn’t a word meant for lovers. But for now, he can hold you in his arms and hear your heartbeat when you pull him in. You'll let him tell you he loves you till the grave, and that is compensation enough.

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆
It’s much chillier now the sun has set, its orangey warm light casting over the horizon. It is beautiful, and you can’t help but admire how the soft pinky colour bleeds through the clouds. It takes your breath away.
So much so that you don’t hear Remus asking you where the matches are as he pokes the dying campfire with a stick, “-Angel? The matchsticks?” He nudges your knee with his elbow, smiling at the amazement that gleams within your eyes, he wishes he had his Polaroid camera near him.
“Huh? Oh, sorry here- I was worlds away” You feel the embarrassment creep up into your chest as you hand him the box of matchsticks.
“S’alright love” you watch as he relights the fire before joining you back on the blanket you had set on the grass, he shuffles closer to you with a slight shiver, his cold hands slipping under your jumper.
You gasp, sitting upright as you grab ahold of his wrists prying his freezing hands away from your warm skin, “Remus! You just lit the fire quit using me” You try to sound as serious as possible, but it’s hard when he starts laughing. His eyes are so full of love that it makes you feel all types of giddy.
He stops trying to cypher your body heat as you clasp your hands around his, “Let me warm them up” you whisper before peppering gentle kisses along his knuckles, noticing the ever-so-tiny scar that runs along his finger. He had accidentally sliced it one drunken night when he was craving box-brownies, and he couldn’t open the box, you remember wrapping his finger in a bandage.
His chest flutters and his stomach twists with sickly love as he watches you kiss his hands before holding them between your own, caressing them. “God, you’re so lovely” he whispers, wrapping his arms around you as he tugs you closer, pressing his face into your neck.
Remus breathes you in, pressing delicate kisses along your neck, his warm lips trailing up to your jaw. “So- so lovely” he whispers against you, smiling when your breath hitches ever so softly as his lips continue to travel along your skin.
“You’re silly” you whisper, raking your fingers through his hair. He shakes his head, bringing your hand to press a kiss against your palm as he mumbles “M’not I’m being serious” against you.
He shuffles to sit behind you, his legs on either side of you as you rummage through your backpack, “Do you want dessert?” You ask as he rests his chin on your shoulder, humming in approval when you pull out the marshmallows and chocolate biscuits.
Remus watches as you skewer the marshmallows before holding them over the fire, turning them every so often. The sky was now littered with stars, and with it came a slight chill in the air. If it weren’t for Remus sitting behind you with his arms wrapped around your middle, it would be a lot more colder.
“You’re so pretty” he whispers, pressing a kiss to your shoulder then another to your jaw, his hands slipping under your jumper once again to settle against your tummy.
You smile, softly shaking your head, “Stop distracting the cook” you tease as you sandwich one of the toasted marshmallows between two chocolate-covered biscuits, handing it to Remus, whose chin is still resting against your shoulder. You can’t help but chuckle as he takes the whole thing into his mouth.
“Oh my god, Remus” you giggle, as he licks his lips, nodding his head in approval, his eyes wide with delight.
He watches as you eat the sweet treat, smiling to himself softly as he notices the chocolate that collects in the corner of your mouth.
“Oh baby, you’ve got a little something” he whispers gently cupping your jaw, the tips of his fingers are surprisingly cool against your warm cheek. He turns your face to look at him.
Remus takes a moment to admire you. His eyes are so gentle as they study your face, and you can’t help but feel slightly embarrassed. The feeling soon dissipates as he presses his lips against yours. The taste of coffee and the sweetness of the chocolate only makes you want to deepen the kiss.
The position isn’t the most comfortable. It makes you pull away from him, shuffling to sit in front of him instead. “C’mere” he whispers, pulling you into him, kissing you once more, his hands on either side of your face.
He kisses you with so much love that it makes go dizzy. It’s in the way he holds your face and the way he sighs against your lips before kissing, again and again, until you are left breathless, resting your forehead against his.
It’s so quiet, the only thing you can hear is the distant sounds of nature and Remus’ soft breaths, and you swear if you focus enough you can hear his heartbeat.
He leans back against the tree making room for you to sit between his legs, and you do so without hesitation. Resting your head against his chest as he talks endlessly about stars and their constellations, you find yourself wishing you could spend eternity in this very moment.

{Strawberry picking with James}
A little blurb, just went with the flow. Enjoy lovelies💕
CW// James gives reader a piggyback at the end.
⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊
The late Spring air feels pleasantly warm against your skin, the afternoon sun peaking through the white fluffy clouds casting orange rays over the grassy strawberry fields. It’s a beautiful day, it has been since you first woke up and when James suggested going strawberry picking you immediately jumped at the opportunity.
James slips his hand in yours, his fingers entwining with your own as you both walk down the grassy path. A gentle breeze brushes past you, causing the bushes around you to rustle slightly, and he’s quick to notice the way your skin prickles with goosebumps.
“Here baby, take this.” He says, taking off his checkered flannel before handing it over to you with a warm smile, his honeyed eyes gleaming under the sunlight. He takes the small basket of red strawberries from your hands as you put it on over your dress.
“Sorry, I should’ve brought a jacket.” You tell him, fixing your hair. He watches you as if he is in some sort of trance, completely and utterly enamoured by you and your beauty.
The feeling of your fingers grazing against the back of his hand, taking the basket from him, snaps him out of it and he shakes his head with a soft smirk. “Don't apologise silly, it’s what I’m here for.” He smirks softly.
James gently twits one of the many berries off of its stem, studying it intently before slipping it into the small basket. He glances over to you as you do the same, reaching over to brush your hair away from your eyes, tucking it behind your ear.
“I’m thinking maybe a shortcake?… or a jam?” You whisper softly, plucking another berry with the utmost care.
“Hm… maybe we can do both?” He takes another strawberry but this time he brings it up to his mouth, taking a bite. The juice stains his lips and instead of wiping his mouth like a sensible person, he leans forward, his hand resting against the nape of your neck pulling you into a wet kiss.
The sweet taste of the strawberry invades your tastebuds leaving your lips feeling a little sticky. He pulls back with a sly smirk before pressing another kiss to your cheek and then another and another.
“Ugh… James, it’s so sticky.” You whine, trying and failing to push him away as he wraps an arm around your shoulder.
“I brought wet wipes, just let me love you some more.” He chuckles, pressing another strawberry-tasting kiss to your lips. “Gotta make sure they taste alright before bringing them home, baby” he mumbles in between kisses.
You’re thankful that it's relatively quiet here, hidden behind the strawberry bushes as he kisses you under the warm afternoon sun. “Alright you’ve had your fun… come on.” You giggle against his lips, your fingers brushing through his brown curly hair.
He gives you one last peck before handing you the wet wipes from your bag that he's holding, grinning at the soft pout you’re giving him whilst you clean your face as he does the same.
You shoo his hand away before he can steal another strawberry from your basket, shaking your head at him with a playful glimmer in your eyes. “No more, we need to weigh them first.” You tell him and he lets out a huff of air, being completely overdramatic.
“Well then, come on.” He whines playfully, bending his knees slightly as he offers you a piggyback. You shake your head softly with a shy smile.
“Hm, I’m not sure.” Your voice is just above a whisper as you glance down at the floor. James looks over his shoulder, nodding his head to beckon you closer to him.
“I am, come on, let me give you a lift angel.” You know how persistent he can be and the look he’s giving you, with his big brown doe eyes, certainly doesn’t help.
So, begrudgingly, you walk over to him with a mumbled “Fine”. His hands hold you up by the backs of your thighs as they tighten around his waist, your arms circling around his shoulders.
“Hold on tight.” He warns you with a tone that you certainly do not like.
“James Potter. Do not run with me on your back.” You tell him trying to sound as stern as possible, your face is already pressed into his neck as you prepare for the worst. Instead, he walks, calmly. A sigh of relief passes your lips.
The sounds of nature seem quieter than they once were this morning, the sun now setting over the horizon creating a pinky-orangey colour that blooms throughout the sky.
You'll fall asleep in the car journey home with James’ fingers clasped with your own. Soft music playing through the car radio and a basket of strawberries, that you’ll spend all day tomorrow turning into a delicious shortcake.

The sunset casts over the horizon, painting the clouds in the prettiest colours, a pinky-orangey mixture swirling throughout the sky. It makes for a beautiful sight as Remus makes his way through the plains on his brown Spanish Mustang, a loyal horse that’s been with him through thick and thin.
He knows where he’ll end up, back at your father’s small ranch house despite the tiny part of his mind that screams at him to turn around. Your father would shoot him, he reckons, he might be a man of faith but you’re his little girl.
With a soft groan, he runs his hand through his horse's mane as he trots across the trodden grass. He continues on the path to your ranch, excitement bubbling up inside him as your house comes into his line of sight.
Remus knows that you’ll be alone, this isn’t the first time he’s been here, sneaking around like some damn outlaw. He knows your father is off in town doing his daily sermons that last for hours. He can’t help but smirk at the idea of getting a moment alone with you… his sweetheart. Even if it’s fleeting.
He’s tying his horse to the hitching post just by the white fencing of your house when you come rushing over to him with a joyous expression. That sweet smile of yours is enough to make anyone fall to their knees. Remus nods to you, taking off his hat as he holds it to his chest.
“Thought you’d forgotten about me.” You say, giggling softly. You lean over the fencing as he walks over to you, hooking his hat on the white wood.
He shakes his head, and his calloused palm grazes your cheek as he brushes your hair behind your ear. “How could I forget ‘bout you?” He asks with a grin, admiring the soft cotton dress you’re wearing and the way the fabric ripples through the wind.
It was true, there wasn’t a world where Remus could ever forget about you, your soft skin and pretty eyes are practically engraved into his mind and heart. That’s why he’s here, standing in front of you despite his better judgment and the fact he knows that your father, deep down, would never approve of him dating you.
The smell of the outdoors and firewood lingers on his sun-kissed skin. You’re hit with it as he leans down slightly to press a soft kiss against your cheek.
“Have you eaten yet?… and I mean a good meal.” Your question makes his heart swell with love and he can’t help but chuckle.
“Yeah, I’ve eaten sweetheart.” He promises, pressing his thumb against your chin, he tilts your head upwards to look at him as he steps closer to you with his other hand resting against your hip.
You nod, wrapping your arms around his waist before slipping your hands into his back pockets. A habit you’ve picked up on from him. He smirks down at you.
“Are you coming in?” God, the way his mind spins with that question and how badly he wants to say ‘yes’ and stay with you.
“Can’t stay for long, baby. James and Sirius are expecting me down at the Saloon.” He tells you, soothing his thumb along your jaw as you pout up at him with a look of disappointment in your eyes.
“Oh, come on now.” He chuckles, pressing a sweet kiss to your pouty lips. “Don’t give me that face, pretty thing. you know why I can’t stay.”
Remus presses another kiss to your lips as your expression softens. “He’s gonna find out one day.” You’ve got a point, one day Remus will have to bite the bullet and fish out a neat suit to meet your strict father.
“Hmm… not if I steal ya away first.” He teases, enjoying the way you roll your eyes slightly with a huff. He tugs you closer to him by your hips. “Promise, one day I’ll let ya introduce me to him.” He says, pressing his face into the crook of your neck as he takes in the scent of your flowery perfume.
You decide to trust him, after all, he’s never once lied to you before. Remus just isn’t the type, he’s a man that values trust and he’d never take yours for granted.
“Why’d you come all the way out here then?” Your question makes him lift his head up from your shoulder, his eyebrow-raising with a playful look.
“Just wanted to see your pretty face.” He states simply as if it was the most obvious thing in the whole world. “I don’t need an excuse to come and see ya do I?”
You shake your head, looking up at him. “No… I’m glad you came, I’ve missed you.” There it goes again, your words make his chest bloom with a warmth that leaves a sickly sweet taste in his mouth.
“Missed you too baby.” He whispers, his fingers fiddling with the dainty golden cross that sits against your collarbones. He knows your father will be back soon, he should get going but at the same time, he can’t seem to pull himself away.
Remus takes your hands in his own, glancing over to his horse before looking back down to you. “You wanna go riding with me tomorrow?” He asks, hope gleaming in his honeyed eyes.
The excitement in your expression is truly a sight he’ll never get bored of. “Of course, I’ll wait for you after breakfast.” You tell him and he hums in agreement, picking his hat up and fixing it on his head.
“Better get some sleep then, I’ll be here early.” He smiles, caressing your warm cheek with his thumb. He tilts his hat up slightly so he can lean down and press a loving kiss to your lips that tapers off into small pecks.
“I will love you, cowpoke.” You whisper against his lips, shying away from him ever so slightly as he trails his lips along your jaw to your cheek, he grins against your soft skin.
“Love you too.” He whispers, fixing his hat once more.
He kisses your forehead before walking over to his horse, unhitching him from the post before saddling up. With a wave he clicks his tongue and his horse is off, carrying him away from the ranch, leaving only a promise of returning tomorrow.

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺
The oil lamps cast a low moody light through the saloon, the glasses clinking and the patrons sharing a laugh or two whilst they play poker. It’s relatively quiet for a Friday, with most ranch owners taking advantage of the extra light the summer brings.
Remus is sitting at one of the tables with his hat pulled down low. One of the men opposite hands out some cards as Remus pushes a couple of coins and a handgun onto the table, his offer makes the rest of the men at the table share a couple of smirks.
Then the Saloon doors swing open, at first he doesn’t think anything of it just figuring that the general store owner from across the street had closed early. Then he hears Lily Evans’ voice followed by your giggle and he damn near falls off his chair in shock.
The rest of the men in the Saloon also share confused looks, they all know your father. The proud man who gives daily sermons, dedicating himself to spreading the word of God. What's his daughter doing stumbling in here?
Remus tips his hat up, looking under the edge of it and over in your direction. He smirks proudly, not quite believing that you dared to venture out because he knows for a fact your father was more of the overprotective type, and with that comes his strictness.
He keeps a watchful eye on you, shooting death glares at anyone who gets a little too close to comfort as you take your seat at the bar. Of course, you’re in a world of your own, completely oblivious to the cowboy who sits at the back table.
Remus can hardly pay attention to the game of poker that he’s stuck in. He’s far too distracted by the way you’re perched up on that stool and how the dress you’re wearing hugs at your body. You’re absolutely angelic, the warm light that dusts against your skin, and that sweet giggle of yours only proves this to him.
He wins by pure luck with a royal flush. Claiming the winnings that were piled up on the table with a cocky tone as he gives them a, “Thank you, gentlemen,” before walking over to where you’re sitting at the bar.
A hand against your lower back makes you jump, taking you out of your conversation with Lily as you let out a gasp. “Easy there Darlin’ s’just me.” Remus drawls, leaning against the wooden bar, his elbow propping up against the surface.
You look over to him with bright eyes, sparkling with excitement as you watch him order a whiskey. “What’re you doing here?” You ask him with a certain air of giddiness in your tone.
Remus knocks back his dark liquid with a low groan, placing his hat down on the bar before looking down at you, his eyebrows raised slightly in amusement.
“Could ask you the same gorgeous.” He smirks, the back of his fingers brushing against your warm cheek as he admires your pretty face.
You idly trail your fingertips along the rim of your whiskey glass with a shy smile, glancing down at your hands as he tucks your hair behind your ear. “Just stopping in for a drink with Lily-” You cut yourself off as you glance behind you, noticing that she had disappeared off to speak to Mary.
Remus hums softly, caressing your jaw with his thumb as he tilts your head back over to look up at him once again. “Does your Pa know?” He asks with a sly smirk when you shake your head ‘no’
With that he tuts teasingly, the roughness of his palm against your soft cheek sends a shiver down your spine and you can’t help but shy away from him ever so slightly.
“Darlin’ you tryin’ to give your old man a heart attack?” He chuckles lowly, his hand falling to rest against your hip.
He watches as you pout, the way your eyebrows furrow together. A huff escapes your lips and he bites his tongue, keeping his teasing words to himself with a smirk that teeters against his lips.
“I don’t need his permission to go out for a drink.” You tell him, taking a sip of your whiskey with a slight grimace on your face. That gets him, watching the disgust twist through your expression, he can’t stop himself from chuckling into his palm.
Remus leans down slightly, pressing a kiss against your forehead. He lets his lips linger for just a moment before pulling back as the bartender pushes another glass over to him.
“Nah you don’t, just gotta be careful baby.” He says, his expression softening slightly. He puts his hat down upon your head, tilting your chin upwards to look at him.
He quickly knocks back his second glass, his eyes meeting yours as his thumb rests against your chin. “My girl…” he whispers under his breath, his hand falling to gently fiddle with your cross necklace.
“I’m careful, always am.” You tell him, fixing his hat to sit comfortably on your head as he pays for yours and his drinks before you can even start to complain.
He nods in acknowledgement, but he also knows that won’t stop your father from marching his way into town to get you, he’d save you from that embarrassment.
“Come on sweetheart, let’s get ya home.” He says, relief washing over him you give him a soft nod. Thankful that you’re not going to fight him on it, you understand how difficult your father can be at times.
The sun had completely gone down, making space for the moon and stars. Remus guides you out of the smokey Saloon with a hand against the small of your back, helping you up to saddle his horse.
He takes you home as promised, pressing a sweet kiss to your lips as you place his hat back onto his head. He doesn’t leave until he knows you’re in the safety of your home, an odd sense of longing swarming his stomach as he rides off.
One day he’d save up enough money to buy some land and get a house… first he has to get enough courage to ask for your father’s blessing.
