Misa Amane - Tumblr Posts
God I hate the bimbofication of Misa at the end of dn. Misa starts out as an amazing character but the series wastes her potential just when it could have come to use the most. I always thought there ought to have been something deeper within her seemingly shallow infatuation with Light. Something beyond her being a Kira worshipper. Something that actually makes me understand her character and motivations. It's something the series never makes explicitly clear and it's so frustrating. It makes it difficult me to like adore her fully and I want to since I ship her with one of my blorbos.
What is a dealbreaker for you, in terms of liking a female character? Like at what point would you not care if they were a victim of misogynistic writing?
When the character is genuinely unpleasant.
This isn't as personal as it might sound. While there are certain personality types that annoy me more than the others, I never hate characters that develop, or get fleshed out in any way. Like Misa, for instance. Even though by the end she's reduced to a bimbo fangirl she was initially set up as(which I found more sad and frustrating than annoying tbh), most hateful takes I've seen of her almost ALWAYS revolve around her not being on L and Light's level of intelligence. Which is a. ableist, b. an invalid reason to call someone annoying and c. acting like they themselves can brag about having a 200+ iq. Regardless, Misa had serious potential, and– despite what some may like to argue–a very tangible reason to support and fall for Light.
On the other, I hate Bellatrix Lestrange. I guess I can consider her a victim of bad writing bc she's never fleshed out beyond being an extremist, racist and Voldy's lapdog. It's not because she's a villain that I don't engage with her character (in fact I flirt really hard with the idea of Misa being a villian) but because being EVIL™ and being Voldemort's most loyal supporter is all there is to her. I don't fancy indulging in an unlikable, uninteresting over the top character who's literally nothing more than a product of the death eaters' and the Black family's prejudice towards muggle borns. She had literally nothing of her own, and is still hailed as a great fictional villain because GASP Women can torture omg omg. One of the things I like about canon is that she is given an extremely disrespectful death lol.
Also when characters just...exist for the sake of it and get fricking praised because they're (supposedly) strong and female. Like a lot of lok female characters.
Also child prodigy characters. They can go yeet themselves into oblivion.

Okay, but how does Light Yagami get around??? I’m rewatching Death Note and his eyes are shut like half the time??? How haven’t you tripped and died, son???
au where light maintains this absolutely derranged attitude towards misa through their entire murderous relationship. i want them screaming at tvs together. i want them convinced they were godsent for each other. if anyone insinuates anything even slightly negative about misa i want light to bite them with his teeth.
Not sure if you’ve been asked this before, but after Light loses his memories, he says that Misa just said she fell in love with him and won’t leave him alone. Misa, however, says that Light kisses her. Assuming Light remembers this, why do you think he believes he did that, since Yotsuba arc Light is also very adamant about not wanting to manipulate women and all that?
Oh, Light definitely remembers kissing Misa, imo. I think he just didn’t want to talk about the incident in detail in front of an entire task force of detectives, one of whom is his dad.
As for why he thinks he did it, I’d say he views the incident as “I was desperate to get Misa to leave me alone so I kissed her in the hopes that she’d gotten what she wanted and would quit following me everywhere without having to file reports with the police.”
Since he’d have no recollection of anything pertaining to the death notes or his use of them, the whole Misa incident really come across exactly as he describes it since she just.. randomly shows up on his doorstep one day, pretends to be a college classmate and then demands to be his girlfriend. I think Yotsuba LIght would’ve parsed all that as “ok, that’s nice and I’m sure you’re a nice girl, but….” only for Misa to kinda launch into the story about her parents’ murder and how all she wants is to be loved by Light bla bla bla.
Self flattering as Light is, I think he just views his continued interactions with Misa as “well I can’t be a dick to her, what was I supposed to do?”
tl;dr poor kiddo.
Light/Misa, first arc vs. second arc! – submitted by @pensulliwen for the ship meme
I am forever amused by how you disappear but then reappear for the Misa content, first of all. Hope you’re doing well and things are looking diamonds for you <3
OK so my feelings on Light/Misa are, as you know, conpilcated, haha. I love them but JFC these two are messed up to hell and back.
First arc Light/Misa – Their dybamic during this arc makes me p. uncomfortable because of the stalking and the total refusal to accept ”no” for an answer on Misa’s part. Truth be told, I just feel really bad for Light during this part because Misa does such reckless things and doesn’t actually listen to or abide by any of the measures he wanted to put in place for both of their safety??
I get where Light’s frustrations with Misa come from during this arc and even though it’s true that he does make the questionable move of “sure I’ll pretend to be your boyfriend” it’s pretty clear that he wanted out of that once it became obvious that Misa wasn’t going to be realistic about her demands and couldn’t get out of it because a) Misa wasn’t going to handle “actually no I’m not going to pretend date you either, don’t come to my house again” like a reasonable person and b) Rem existed. It just leaves Light stuck in this situation where he has to deal with this girl he really doesn’t like who might get him killed because she refuses to stop stalking him and he’s just kinda stuck having to grit his teeth and make the best out of shit circumstances.
It’s just deeply fucked up and not fucked up in a way I personally enjoy. There aren’t too many things in Death Note that make me go “gosh poor Light” because so much of what happens to him is kinda deserved, but first arc shenanigans with Misa absolutely does, sob. I think if the element of legitimate possibility of death had been taken out of the picture and it was just Misa stalking him and Light gritting his teeth through her being clingy and extroverted while they go on a murder spree together, that’d have probably been more up my alley?
….which I guess is why I happen to find second arc Light/Misa so much more intriguing because the elements of coercion, stalking and “if I don’t grit my teeth and deal with this shit I might literally die” aren’t key parts of how their relationship works anymore. At this point, their dynamic has shifted – in large part because Light has worked out how to actually manipulate Misa properly, sob. It’s pretty terrible, but this actually moves in the direction of terrible that I like, soblol. A big part of the reason I think they stabilize is down to the fact that they live together which is like… Misa’s Couple Mission Unlocked!! and she feels more like a permanent fixture in Light’s life, so she doesn’t have to pull more crazy stalking antics…and also L’s dead so doubleyay for the lack of external threats??
So they just end up in this weird state of “How to Train A Misa.” I’m being facetious about something that’s p fucked up as well but effectively it’s just them drawing out and enhancing the worst parts of each other in a circlejerk of awful. Light basically conditions Misa into becoming more dependent on his approval and praise, which in turn makes Misa so much more inclined to see only LIght as being relevant in her universe. She isolates herself without realizing that’s what’s happening…and she’s probably super proud of it, too? Like LOOK AT HOW MUCH I LOVE LIGHT, la la la. And in turn, Misa gives him regular egostrokings and makes it easier for Light to not really question what he’s doing as Kira because well, yeah…he’s great, duh.
And in a way, I love this about second arc Light and Misa. They shape each other to be worse versions of themselves and I don’t think either of them realize that. Light still thinks he’s above Misa, but he takes her for granted and hypocritically relies on someone he views as being criminal. And Misa… well, she’s just so trapped in her own fantasy land that Light built up for her and she’s just, in her own mind, living out the dream, not realizing that the ways that she makes excuses for Light are indicative of anything significantly wrong.
It’s so stupid and sad, I love them.
tell me about ur new funky fresh au I need to know more details
hey! ok so basically, I just really wanted to see Light be like an evil fashionista fairy godmother to Misa. lemme explain--
in this AU, Misa is a student who gets bored in class (mainly because of ADHD, not because she's a supergenius) and finds Ryuk's notebook. she's not scared of him or his appearance at all and winds up making a pact with the shinigami, because she's interesting and charming enough to entertain him. so technically, she's the first Kira.
how does Light factor into all this? simple: in this AU, when the alleyway scuffle takes place, Gelus's death note falls into the human world. Light, hearing the commotion and a young woman's screams, runs outside to intervene, but all he finds are a dead body and a black notebook. later that night, Rem shows up to collect it, scaring the shit out of Light with her spooky shinigami appearance and stern manner. they only wind up striking a deal because Rem gives him a one month deadline to a) help her find Misa, and b) prove he deserves to have this kind of power.
model!Light would definitely have gotten a taste of the real world outside his blissful little bubble by now, so he'd be both more cautious (making fewer of the murders heart attacks so they can't be traced to one source as easily) and more vicious (mainly going after creeps and stalkers he's witnessed do disgusting, illegal bullshit firsthand).
he'd also be a little bit sluttier and more openly flirtatious with L, given the fact that the skill set he's learned as a model teaches him about the importance of body language.
this entire AU was born when I was joking with a friend about how if Light and Misa swapped roles, Light would see Misa's absolute mess of a murder spree and go "oh honey, no. let me show you how it's really done."
,, also because I want nothing more than to inspire as much content of Light being the femme fatale to L's noir detective as possible.
Some profile photos i made myself! If you want any pfps to be made, just feel free to message me :)
I don't kinnie these characters because i need therapy , but because im hot
Faceless L is so...
Hear me out: reversing the villain tropes. Stone cold female villains that don't care about love (whether or not they love is another matter), that are ready to give up anything they love for their goals. And intense, burning male villains that would do absolutely anything out of love Give me female Light Yagami and male Misa Amane. Give us back the original Irene Adler and how she was the cold, calculated genius who won over Sherlock Holmes -and how it was never about love. Give us a man ready to do anything to serve, help, avenge, follow the woman he loves, even if she doesn't want him to. And please, please, give us other kinds of love -a parent becoming a monster to protect their child, a brother with a possessive/protective attachment to their sibling, a friend that takes loyalty to a horrifying point, a child growing into something horrible in hopes to be fed scraps of a parent's love and affection. Please.
