Internet Security - Tumblr Posts
This is all very fascinating stuff but can we please talk about the fact that the author of the article is Tyler Durden, the main antagonist of Fight Club?
GET KOSA TRENDING.
STOP SCROLLING NOW!
AS OF FEBRUARY 21ST, 2024, WE GOT FIVE DAYS UNTIL THE DAY OF DECISION OF THE KOSA BILL, WHICH WILL CAUSE MASS CENSORSHIP ROUND THE INTERNET IF PASSED. OR DOOMSDAY. WE NEED EVERYONE TO KNOW ABOUT THIS AND CONTRIBUTE. I'M NOT GIVING UP ON YOU ALL.
WE'RE DOWN TO THE WIRE BUT WE CAN'T GIVE UP YET. IF WE GIVE UP, EVERYTHING IS OVER. IF WE DON'T, AT LEAST WE HAVE A CHANCE.
I'M THE ONE WHO SOUNDED THE ALARM, AND I'M NOT GOING TO CURL UP AND DIE YET.

(Also, please reblog with at least "stop kosa" as a tag and not "kosa". I made the mistake of not adding just "kosa" as a tag...)
We won't let this stand any longer. Let's start a riot and get this trending.
I seriously die inside every time I see it. Even YouTube channels can get me some days.
Please, for your own safety, tell no one anything about you. Say nothing. Pretend you are a spy and any identifying information will get you killed. Because it just might.
One thing I despise about kids being uneducated about internet safety is the amount of times I’ve had to delete not just their identifying details from my page (don’t fucking tell me where you go to school), but also mine.
If you saw me at work or out and about, no you fucking didn’t.
Shut the fuck up, I’ve had death threats.
You keep telling us to move away from Chrome but I can tell you're not a Firefox power user because these posts never suggest NoScript or Privacy Badger.
Stop the EARN IT Act
I don't usually make posts but I’m going to try.
The Earn it act was represented to congress on January 1st, 2022. It is introduced as way to crack down crack down on exploitation of children on the internet, particularity in regards to child pornography. The way this is being done is by changing Section 230 of the Communication Decency Act. The actual effect of this are worrying, which is why there has been such a backlash to it.
If passed as it is, the earn it act would:
Make websites responsible for any information that users publish on it.
Seriously undermine internet privacy, as it would allow online communication to be more easily accessed by other parties.
Put vulnerable communities who rely on this privacy at risk (was particularly criticized by sex workers, who already have had to repeal their content from several websites due to censorship)
Ironically, make investigations into child pornography more difficult. You can read more about that in this article: http://cyberlaw.stanford.edu/blog/2022/02/earn-it-act-back-and-it%E2%80%99s-more-dangerous-ever
There’s already alot of protections concerning website and the distributions of child pornography, so this Act will really just continue the trend of making less and less on the internet private
So what can you do?
As of right now, (2-24-2022) The EARN IT Act still hasn't passed. Right now, you can see the list of senators who have cosponsored it, on this website here : https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/3538/cosponsors
If you live in the states, send an email to one of these people. Or a letter. Or a phone call. Obviously some will be more interested in listening than others, but its important to make these points clear to senators. Personally I will be sending this information to Senator Dianne Feinstein of California. If you don't live in the states, tell someone who does! I don’t know how much of difference we can make but it’s important to try.
