Sweet Sleep Spray
Hi 🖤 I'm back again with another sleep-oriented spell. I made a sleep sachet here 🖤 Sleep is the most important part of my day because I'm anemic, so I spend a lot of time sleeping. However, I also suffer from severe anxiety and major depressive disorder, so despite my body screaming for sleep, sometimes it just won't come. I made this spray to use on my pillows as I go to sleep, and while I've only used it four or so times, it has gotten me to sleep every time, ususlly within minutes.
What you need
Spray bottle (preferably glass, but if you can't then use a bpa free plastic as this does contain essential oils)
Rubbing alcohol or high proof vodka (I used rubbing alcohol)
Full moon water // dreams
Lavender essential oil // sleep, calm
Patchouli // grounding, calming
Lavender flowers // calming, sleep
Vanilla (I used fragrance oil) // sweetness, sweet dreams
Valerian root // ease into sleep
Method
I added maybe 40 drops of vanilla into my jar
I followed this with 20 drops of lavender
I put 4 pinches of lavender, patchouli and Valerian root
I finally filled half the bottle with moon water, then added alcohol to fill the rest of the bottle.
Tada! Because I added so much EO, I have a strong smelling spray (which is exactly how I like it). Just a few spritzes across your pillows, and a few minutes for it to settle in and relax you
Sweet dreams🖤

Safety Reminder: Oil Blending
If you decide to make home blends of oils for your craft, please do your research about oil dilutions.
Essential oils should never be applied directly to the skin, due to their concentrated nature and the fact that some may cause reactions. Some oils are what is known as ‘volatile’ and this means that they react to sunlight and will cause severe chemical burns.
When you create oils, you must dilute the essential oils in a carrier oil (a.k.a, base oil). Carrier oils are vegetable and plant oils such as almond oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, jojoba oil, etc. [click here for a post with lists of carrier and essential oils].
✧ SAFE OIL DILUTION PERCENTAGES
If you intend to make an oil for topical use, you must create one of a safe dilution. Anything up to a 5% dilution is safe to use on human skin - provided that you don’t have an allergy or sensitivity to one of the essential oils you’re using (frankly, if you put a substance that you’re sensitive or allergic to on your skin willingly, you’re a bit of a fool).
If you have sensitive skin, you’d best err on the side of caution and opt for a lower concentration. I find that 3% is good midpoint to work with.

Oh my god, food extract is not the same as an essential oil.
Food extract is the flavoring of something cooked down into a carrier oil or alcohol that is safe for human ingestion.
Essential oil is the pure extract of the plant refined down and distilled for concentrated medicinal purposes to a significantly higher strength than simply adding ground up mint leaves to your water. The two are not comparable in any way.
Cinnamon extract and cinnamon essential oil are not the same thing.
One is about 100 times the strength of the other and can also cause acute organ failure. I’ll give you a hint, it’s not the food extract.
Sweet gods I’m not trying to be mean, I want you to be aware and safe and stop putting yourselves and others at risk. Please.

I feel like this piece requires some explanation. This piece was done for an assignment called “What’s on your mind” and at the suggestion of a friend I decided to do my piece about my experience as a skeptic of religion. I want to be absolutely clear that this piece is not meant to be an insult to any religion symbolized here. In fact, it is a self-deprication of my inability to understand religion. The geometric halo represents my rigid black-and-white (true or false) way of thinking. Even as I “dissect” various belief systems, I have trouble grasping fundamental concepts, such as “faith”. I also noticed during the process of making this piece that openly skeptical views are far more likely to draw dirty looks and the like than mainstream religious views. Somehow, that makes this piece even more important to me.
Thank you for your understanding.
