Les Tricheurs, Caravaggio, 1594.
I decided to do some Angel Hare fanart. It's probably one of my favorite analog horrors other than Welcome Home. It's based on Artemisia Gentileschi's Judith Slaying Holofernes. I felt it might be somewhat fitting since both projects have biblical themes involving murder for the sake of freeing someone from another's oppression. My use of shading could use some work, though.
Hope y'all like it!
“Ephemeral Shell”
This painting (especially regarding the flower imagery) is vaguely inspired by the so-called “Schnitterlied”, an originally anonymous (tho later published, revised and quoted by several authors in the following centuries) German poem/song, dealing with fleeting nature of the material compared to the eternal nature of the soul (as appears to be quite common in texts of this era). I came across it when revising for my school finals (which I am still somewhat in the middle of, hence also the recent lack of posts, sorry).

No that doesn't really work in English...
I painted this a while ago after being inspired by the original painting "Armida Abandoned by Rinaldo" from Giambattista Tiepolo, dated 1742/45. . . . #armida #armidaabbandonata #armidaabandonedbyrinaldo #myart #miarte #artista #pintura #baroque #baroqueart #realism #realismart #impressionism #arte #dibujo #delorenzoART #giambattista #giambattistatiepolo #italianart #paintingart #seniorartist #seniorartistry https://www.instagram.com/p/CnK0mLmOlp4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Penitent Magdalene. Mateo Cerezo (Spanish, 1637-1666). Oil on canvas. Private collection.
Cerezo’s style is that of Spanish Baroque, influenced by Tenebrism. Cerezo was inspired by Titian and the refined elegance of Anthony van Dyck, and his varied, warm palette made him one of the most sensitive and refined colourists of the late Madrid school.
Mary Magdalene holds a skull, a common symbol of mortality. She may be pondering the earthly reality of our mortality and the eternal truth of the spiritual life. The time is sometime after the Crucifixion and Resurrection. The penitent is living in poverty. She obviously has still retained her beauty.
