realizing it's coming up to university admissions season, and that as a recent undergrad/current grad student, i actually may have some hopefully useful insight?

anyhow, feel free to send me, a random internet person, an ask, whether you're stressing about choosing a major, that annoying 'Why X University' question, SAT scores, (not sure if that's relevant anymore because of COVID) reach/target/safety schools, or just general advice on how to student/how to adult.

Don’t want to gatekeep fandom but can we please quarantine the people who used to make fun of us for reading HP and still haven’t read any of the books?

as much as i adore the marauders, the fandom bothers me so much. honestly, not even as a whole. it’s the new marauders/hp stans in general that bother me so much. and it’s not like i’m against people taking interest in something later, or even not liking it at first and then coming around to it. i’m not trying to gatekeep.

but i can’t help but get so beyond annoyed when people make it so blatantly obvious that their just a trend follower and have no original opinions of their own. this is mostly on tiktok.

and it’s always the people who make video about how they used to make fun of people who liked harry potter and now are “obsessed with dead gay wizards from the 70s 🤪🤪🥴😩😍.” and they always have the absolute worst takes on everything. (just an observation.)

i know it probably shouldn’t bother me, but i am just so fed up. it’s so disappointing how many people can’t just think for themselves. and i’m not even talking about all new comers. it’s the people that in the past year have only come to like hp because of tiktok, (a lot of them thinking it was stupid, or weird before) and getting all up on dracotok, being obsessed with draco, but then when that trend got old for them, they moved on to obsessing over the weasley boys instead, and all of a sudden started shitting on draco and every other “irredeemable” character. and they just like the ships people tell them to like and hate the ships people tell them to hate. not having one original thought of their own.

and now people can’t ship what they want to ship because someone out there is claiming it’s problematic. or even have some type of preference within one of their ships because it’s problematic. people just need to stop. again, i’m not trying to hate on new fans. but as someone who’s circulated the hp fandom for years across multiple different platforms, i’ve never had anything to complain about until now.

i fucking hate tiktok. it makes things trend and then people beat it into the ground until everyone hates it and it’s not fun anymore.
